Live Stream of the Iron Dog Start!
Go Team #11! Go First Dude!
Not there, just interested in the Palins and the race.
What a small world. I started school in Taft. My aunt was the first grade teacher. Where we lived until I was 9 years old was a Taft address (my grandfather’s farm). My Dad taught Chemistry at the high school there before WWII. That is when he was conscripted to work at Huntsville arsenal where they made Mustard Gas. I was born at Delrose, TN. and my parents moved us to Frankewin when I was 3 mo. and then to Cash Point and then to the tenant house on my grandparent’s farm. I’ve moved 38 times in my life, so I have many “homes”, but only one eternal home.
C4P has a thread about the race, and have sometimes posted info before it gets on the Iron Dog website.
They have links to other sources, like the facebook page for the race and sometimes Alaska news sources.
They have info on the happenings in Nome. The guys are on the trail again, and haven’t been out too long. Under a yellow flag, in three groups to Unlakeet. Lots of pictures, I’m sorry I don’t remember how to post pictures.

Thanks for the link. The live thread there gave me some info I didn’t have.
Apparently bad weather has moved in and is moving along the route. The racers are all sheltered in and the race is in place for the nonce. At this moment I don’t know when it will get going again.
[Disclaimer: I don’t have consistent internet access anymore. I can’t keep up with the race.]
Thanks Al,for posting the picture.
There was an entry posted that (11) Palin/Quam and (7)Davis/Davis had gone ahead and cut the trail when they were trying to get out of Nome. There was 7 feet of new snow, storm surge in the bay, flooding at every waterway where it is usually covered with ice. If they can go over the ice, the trip is faster. Very, very dangerous, and very brave for the four that went ahead to cut trail.
I believe the trail was cut before the race started, but with the bad weather it had to be done again. Cory Davis is a rookie to this race, so a shout out to him.
I checked out all the links on the C4P website, so that is how I saw this info.
I’m clumsy with posting pictures so I appreciate that you did.
The first groups are already racing. Team 14 is solid but they've never come close to winning this race. Team 10 (directly ahead of Todd/Eric) won last year. I suspect Todd and partner know they're the ones they have to stay in contact with, along with looking out for Scott Davis and his son right behind them.
Should be a great finish.
Thank you. I’ve been wondering how things were going.

They're now motoring up the Yukon river at high speed chasing the 2 teams in front of them. Their last GPS fix had them at 66 mph on the river.
IIRC, Huntington/Olds won it last year.
Todd is in second place at this point. Look at the times, everyone is close. Race will end sometime tomorrow evening.
Woo hoo! Go Todd.
Go Todd, go!
Tonight? Not tomorrow night? Aaach!
It is going to be a fast ending. Oh, I wish I could see (but only if wrapped in a warm cocoon)! I’m speaking at a conference tonight so I can’t watch. RATSO!
GO, TODD, GO!! GO, TODD, GO!!!!
