I was jut rnning a few errands and ran into a store while my 81 year old mother waited in the car. Well, a big sedan pulled into te next slot and a guy got out and started poking all around and then rapped on her window and compained about damage to his car and insisted that it was caused by mine. My mom told him there wasno way that was possible and to go away but didn't mention calling the cops. (I would have) The guy took down my plates and left yelling about lawyers.
Does anybody know about anything like this going on in the fraud community and what should I do now? Again, I wasn't there when this happened and i'm getting the story from my mom who was sitting in the car.
I saw a guy with an Obama sticker getting a ticket yesterday, it brought a big smile to my face and lightened my day considerably.
From what I remember it was in California and all sorts of people were running it. One time, the victim just blasted the the scam artist and drove away. Never found the guy. All that was there was a car, some dead people and a crushed in trunk. Never found the guy, never found a damaged car. No witnesses.
A couple years ago my husband was backing out of a parking space and hit another vehicle. He felt bad and told them he’d pay for the damage. I was PO’ed because that guy was backing out also and who backed into who? I thought it was a scam and when we got a call less than an hour later telling us that they had an estimate for $3600.00 (more than the car was worth), I knew it was a scam.
By that time I had convinced my husband and he told them to forget about it.
Yes. But they will also bump into you and take a picture withe their phone of your license plate as they speed away.
It used to make my blood boil when I would drive around town and see an Obama sticker. Then I started to do something about in it my own small way. Whenever I see a liberal sticker on a car I say an Our Father for that person. Some parts of town I pray a lot. It does help me to curb my anger.
Check with the grocery and see if they have security tapes of the parking lot.
“a 80 year old lady got a call fro m a fruadster saying he was her grandson and needed money but dont tell anyone she went to bank good thing the bank got wind of the scam and called police”
This grandchild/elderly scam is popping up all over the country right now.
Over 45 years ago my father was involved in an accident. He immediately took out his camera and took pictures of the scene. He’s a smart guy :) The other person involved claimed the accident was my father’s fault. My father won in court because the pictures showed it couldn’t have been my father’s fault. If you don’t have a camera phone, keep a disposable camera in the glove box. I consider this an invaluable life lesson.
BTW, on the same note, I still can't believe old people get hooked in by the Canadian Lottery scam. Put stupidity and greed together and you get taken. And there are STILL people waiting for their Nigerian cash transfers.
Good decision, for sure.
I pray too.
I shut them up by opening the door again and demonstrating that even opened as far as it could go, it didn't even *REACH* their car.
Definitely a scam.
I had this happen with a Wal-Mart security person. They claimed my then 6 year old son threw a large rock before we entered the store and damaged the back window of a car that was next to my car. She claimed they had my son on tape, but the video showed no such thing. The security person approached me at my car after we had left the store. After showing the video to me, she said they were going to turn the video over to police. Nothing ever came of it because the video didn’t show my son throwing a rock. It was just some scam that either the couple who owned the car were doing or they were all in on it—including the security person. Looking back now, I should have contacted Wal-Mart to complain, but I didn’t at the time.
Pulled into the lot to exchange insurance info, and as soon as I went back to my car to get my insurance info, he got into his car and high-tailed it away.
Took me about 5 minutes to realize, he had been pulling out of a bar...
Cheers!
Check the local businesses and see if any of them have security cameras pointed in the direction of the ‘incident’.
The guy couldn’t get away fast enough could he? Ha!
