Reports of damage to one of the few ancient Egyptian tombs devoted solely to a woman have tempered the news that most of Egypt's priceless antiquities have escaped damage and that teams of foreign archaeologists are safe... One archaeologist present at the famous cemetery of Saqqara, south of Cairo, said that as many as 200 looters were digging for treasure in the area this past weekend before police resecured the area. The excavator, who requested anonymity, added that the tomb of Maya, the wet nurse of King Tutankhamun, was "completely destroyed." Another Western archaeologist said, "We still don't know the extent of the damage, but things have been bad and out of control." ...Hawass also vehemently denied that there has been heavy looting in Saqqara... Foreign archaeologists in Luxor say the situation in that city far to the south was normal. W. Raymond Johnson, who heads the University of Chicago team there, said that after some weekend rioting all was quiet and that there was no damage to any site. His team resumed work on Sunday.... At Amarna, once the capital of Egypt under the pharaoh Akhenaten and his queen Nefertiti, all is "as peaceful as ever," says Barry Kemp, a University of Cambridge archaeologist who is still at the site. An attempt to loot archaeological magazines on the other side of the Nile River was thwarted by police, he said. "Order has not broken down in the countryside as it has in Cairo," he says. Kemp said all foreign expeditions were ordered on Saturday to halt work and leave. Most of his team has since left, and he intends to travel to Cairo soon "to sit it out until I can come back."

This. Sanity.
Please take me to your world.
Obama sold them on the idea of a vast Islamic Caliphate with him at the top?
I will destroy their Army’s and then they will know I am God!!! Just saying ! Seven years to bury the dead, that’s a-lot of human body’s. If before the Trib or after?/ that’s a-lot of human body’s.
well, it looks like it’s good for a laugh, at least. I’ll have to hunt for a used disk of it. :’) There’s a program, hmm, it’s that one about the search for Hatshepsut, it’s got that nervous music video look to some of the footage (not that there is “footage” anymore, but...) in particular the race through the museum rounding up the candidate mummies. It’s a hoot. I really like the reaction shot from one of the women when the “Screaming Mummy” is uncovered.
Well, re: the seven years figure — since the dead will be in the desert for the most part, it makes sense to let them rot, be devoured, and/or dessicate for a while, makes for much less lifting, and the smell should be gone.
lol. Does seem like a rarity around here sometimes.
and the smell should be gone.
LOL !!!!!!! Thanks for the re.
Did you sit down with each one and check their income tax returns and school transcripts?
The looters are thieves.
“The looters are thieves.”
Yup. Just like the non-muslim thieves in this country.
There was a time when Egypt was non-arabic and non-islamic. Erasing history is islamic SOP.
ars repeating. Like that other magnificent region - Anatolia - Asia MInor — it also was one non Turk and non Islamic. The Muslims Turks as well have destroyed most of the artifacts from the Christian past.
ars repeating? -—no - bears repeating so I will:
There was a time when Egypt was non-arabic and non-islamic. Erasing history is islamic SOP.
;’)
Thieves are thieves are thieves. Quit attributing it to poverty.
Are you asking all the rest of the freepers on here who are attributing it to their muslim to quit doing that?
Nope, you’ve been doing that the full length of this thread, and you directed your post to me in the first place.
Pre-Islamic antiquities & culture, Primarily, has a decorative value, much more so in “Arab” countries (which now includes Egypt & Tunisia) than in today’s Iran. Nonetheless it has more of a decorative value in all moslem countries.
They tend to use it to highlight their past achievements to foreigners - no doubt, pre-Islam, they were once very civilised & advanced nations. Though, NOW, their pre-Islamic history has little PRACTICAL meaning, application, or future implications (again, I think, more so in “Arab” countries than in Iran).
Islam, OTOH, has been the hard reality in the ME in general & for the last 14 centuries, without any permanent success in modifying or reforming it. ‘Moderate Islam’ has always been a foreign concept in the ME. And, prior to 9/11, ‘moderate Islam’, to my knowledge, was unheard of in the West. I’d say the term ‘Moderate Islam’ was invented in the West.
Hopefully, they’ll put more emphasis on ridding themselves of Islamic ideology (I won’t hold my breath), which has been a great contributor to both their poverty & ‘backwardness’ than live in their bygone pre-Islamic history & greatness.
Thanks.
Read thru the comment of this FReeper on another thread. Overall I agree with his view/analysis.

I don’t. Egypt isn’t rich from oil money, and is, with Syria, the last of the old-line secularist socialist states in the Muzzie Middle East. Syria is similarly not filthy rich, in part because it was forced out of Lebanon, which it used to squeeze for money. Jordan is in less danger than Syria, despite the supposed stability of the latter, because Syria’s regime isn’t (yet) an Iranian proxy. Iran is winning among the opposition groups in Egypt (Saudi Arabia is losing; it also has lost in Lebanon, it lost in Iraq, it lost twice or more in Afghanistan).
One could argue that Israeli strikes against Iranian nukes are being made *more* likely by the attempt at disintegrating the Egyptian government, and could almost argue that it is the intent of the Obama administration that this be so. The slow, ever-shifting process of keeping the Muzzie Middle East divided against itself continues, irrespective of what Obama’s trying to accomplish there.
If Obama’s stupidity or malfeasance (or both) results in the destruction of Saudi Arabia, I very much doubt that we’ll have to have impeachment hearings. He bowed to his Saudi master, and if he betrays him, that’ll be all for Zero.
