LABARRE — Hundreds of dead and dying birds littered a quarter-mile stretch of highway in Pointe Coupee Parish on Monday as motorists drove over and around them.
State biologists are trying to determine what led to the deaths of the estimated 500 red-winged blackbirds and starlings on La. 1 just down the road from Pointe Coupee Central High School.
The discovery of the dead birds — some of which were lying face down, clumped in groups, while others were face up with their wings outstretched and rigid legs pointing upward — comes just three days after more than 3,000 blackbirds rained down from the sky in Beebe, Ark.

They at least have tested the birds and found the problem. Avian Flu.

I used to be a serious hang glider pilot. At a meet in Italy... several hang gliders were sucked into a giant cumulonimbus cloud that came through the area. The pilots were sucked up to 60,000 ft, suffocated, charred by lightning, frozen and deposited on the ground approximately 60 miles away. This type of accident has caused the deaths of numerous hang glider and paraglider pilots over the years. I am sure that even birds who obviously have better flying instincts than people have suffered the same fate on occassion.

I think saying "Bush did it" simplifies things. He believes it was a "globalist" sponsored attack using Islamic terrorist by proxy. I don't think that is too crazy of an assessment.
I don't know how anyone can look at what has transpired in our country in the last 15 years, especially the last two, and not come to the conclusion that we are seeing about the top 1/5th of the iceberg. Something's afoot and it isn't freedom and life as we once knew it.
May be Pesticide. It happened before. Early 70’s we put Furidan(Purple Bag) on fields waiting to be planted to kill ground puppies. Boy did it work they came to the surface and died.
Then the problems started. Birds especially the Martins would eat the ground puppies and guess what the fields were covered with birds as well.
no one wanted to blame the insecticde it worked to well and was approved for putting on Crops for Human consumption.

I think you’re right, it could happen. I think tho it odd tho, to have several such incidents all of a sudden, altho maybe it’s a more common occurrence than we know and now it’s just being reported. *shrug*.
Well, and not that I necessarily believe this, but a thought that came to mind...what would it look like before the magnetic poles flipped? Would there be disturbances that would confuse the birds’ ability to navigate?
