My husband bought me some of my favorite soup, Campbell's Cream of Potato. My mouth got all ready and I sipped the first spoon. I spit it back in the bowl. It tasted TERRIBLE! I thought it was spoiled. Nope. Now! With Sea Salt Added! If I wanted sea salt I'd go float in the ocean!
I just discovered that they've done the same to Vegetarian Vegetable. No more Campbell's soup for me. And I wrote them to tell them where they can stick their sea salt! I don't buy Healthy Choice soups because they taste awful. So they are now going to force their idea of healthy on consumers? The left is taking over everything and forcing their ideas on us. I'm really angry. They stick their nose in every aspect of our lives.
I guess I'll just have to make my own.
That explains it to a "T".....
Speaking for myself here but it's New Years day and I'm breathing a sigh of relief that the Holidays are done. Today is a no-think, do-nothing day. Monday the fight begins again.
The flavor changed WHEN they changed to Sea Salt. It wasn’t a coincidence. The first time I bought the Melba Toast after they switched to sea salt was the first time they tasted weird/awful. Trust me; it’s the salt.
Sounds as though you had a good Christmas all in all - return of pet after blizzard, nice visit with grandson!
My Grandma used Crisco and when I bake them I want them to taste like Grandma’s. lol It’s not like I bake them every day, I bake them once or twice a year.
I always bought the smallest can of Crisco and threw most of it away as it would go rancid since I used it so seldom.
I told that to the Crisco customer service rep when I called them to complain.
Well of course, providing a solution for people with Wheat gluten sensitivity was not the original intent. However, if carrying the label “Kosher For Passover” assures a person that they can safely enjoy a food, than more power to you! It is an unintended but good result of the Biblical Command not to have any leaven or similar products in the home during Passover.
But, once again, The motivation behind Campbells’ action was not to make a better, healthier product, but to APPEASE a segment of the population that will not be happy until they have destroyed our civilization and our culture. And that I will NOT subscribe to...
If you have city water with chorine and other chemicals in it, then not drinking it makes sense. I can’t stand the smell or taste of city water. Luckily I have a well and live way out in the boondocks. But water in plastic bottles tastes like plastic and a lot of it has been shown to be city water put in plastic bottles.
It was a good Christmas. But I think I stressed myself into being sick again. Grandson got a coat for Christmas and I obsessed about it fitting and if he’d like it. He didn’t own a coat. Couldn’t afford one so Grandpa and I obliged. Got him gloves with thinsulate too. He was happy. That was a relief and 2 days later I was sick again. *sigh*
I used to use Farmer Peet’s lard for pie crust with any kind of clear soda/pop for the liquid but I cannot find lard anywhere anymore.
Go to a Mexican market. Mexicans never stopped doing a lot of stuff that works when it became not the popular thing to do any more. They pay for stuff cash too.
I use Crisco...
Because on the national debt thread all I can do is curse and hope that the fedgov goes back to its constitutional duties only. And I’ve said that a lot already.
Here, I got to post my potato soup recipe!
:-)
Or just use bacon grease. Do you save your bacon grease? I do and use it for frying eggs and so on. More flavor than butter and healthier than margarine.
Your guys must be very happy with their presents. ;^)
Here's a recipe for homemade Irish Cream my sister sent me a couple of Christmases ago. She also sent some of the product and it was quite good.
stir frequently and keep refrigerated
- Stir blend: 2 eggs.
- Add: 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup
- 1 teaspoon instant coffee
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon each; almond and vanilla extracts
- Add: 1 C. vodka
- 1 C. blended whiskey
- 1 C. half-n-half
pinging pandy because she is a big fan of salt and sugar scrubs for the skin. Separately I think.
Health food stores such as Whole Foods carry Brown Cow.
You can order it on-line but it's pricey. About 45 bucks for four pounds.
Thanks, TE! I love Baileys but am not as fond of paying for it. I’ll give your recipe a try!
Milk chocolate has always nauseated me.
I mostly don’t eat it much (no stores around here have the fancy stuff nor do I have the $ for it) so if I want chocolate enough to take the trouble, I make a chocolate pudding cake. From scratch, the kind you make a thick batter underneath, adn then mix sugar, hot water and cocoa and pour it on the top.
:-)
No Mexican market near me. Closest thing to having most everything is Meijer’s and they are a ways but if anyone knows if Meijer’s has lard I would sure drive to get some. I suppose I could find somewhere on the web how to render it myself but that doesn’t sound like anything I would want to smell up the house to do.
Hey, wintertime,
I’m living on heavy high-calorie stuff like soup and biscuits and gravy and pasta!
Spring/summertime I switch to lighter foods, way more salads and veggies and fruits.
Works for me. Well, so far...!!
