Has anyone heard of coyote attacks on pet dogs in the area of Broome and Tioga Counties, New York State? Seems coyote activity has increased in this area. Anyone having the same problems?
Most hunters I know dispatch coyetes on sight.
I have friends in Phoenix and coyotes would gather behind thier house in pack trying to get his dogs to come out “and play.” One would play bow, but you could see the others waiting behind trees/bushes to attack.
I know here in Louisville, KY, we have a growing population of coyotes. In fact, last summer we saw one just trotting down the middle of our subdivision. He was about the size of my minature poodle.
I read a story once that, thanks to the environmentalist wackos, coyotes now inhabit the entire North American continent. So much for “da enviomen”.

Well, I’m in Texas, and we have our share of coyotes around.
The latest craze here seems to be breeding coyotes with dogs! They are called coydogs, and actually, the two I have seen at the doggy park are really good looking, nice dogs.
Of course if you meet up with a wild one, I hope you are prepared to shoot it!
There was a low fence, but a coyote could jump that. Never found a trace of that small dog...
Makes me want to get a night-vision sight and see what I can do about it.
Coyote’s are all over northern Alabama’s residential and country neighborhoods.
I’ve seen them in my residential neighborhood. I had them when I lived out in the country. My Mom has them on the golf course that she lives next too and I have them visiting my office (I work at an Army base).
They are also interbreeding with domestic dogs as well.

Here in SW NH, yes.
They go after our sheep and chickens, and we keep a close watch on our dogs.
They know the sound of a pump shotgun being chambered. As soon as I just start to cycle the action on my 12 ga, they stop baying and scatter.
I'm in Greene county. I've been hearing them a lot lately at night. They sound so close at times.
Coyotes, bobcats and pumas gobble up little pet dogs like appetizers.
We live in so. cal, we have a den about 20 ft, from the back of our house. We also have an outdoor cat. And yes he is still alive and knows they are there. When I jog I have literally run into coyotes, most shy away. Pets are easy prey,. If you dont want the coyotes, get a bow hunter to dispatch them.
The modern compound bow is the basic answer to many of these problems. Everybody on FR should own one and know how to use it.
If ricochet isn't a problem, the old wrist-rocket slingshot w 3/8” steel ball-bearings are effective.
Ya, I'd like to pull out a firearm too, but you'd better be able to demonstrate a child's life was in IMMEDIATE DANGER, before making that call.
Our block lost three mailmen this month. They think it might be coyotes.
Coyotes love pet dogs and cats. Plus, they can jump over a 5 foot wall without a sweat. I live in a gated community in the low desert of So Cal. It is easy for them to walk in the entry/exit gates when they open up. We see them a couple of times a week walking down the golf course fairway at the back of our home. Sometimes, it is a single one. Sometimes two or more. They have little fear but usually try to avoid humans. Best to keep your dog on a leash, and if it is a small dog, pick it up if you see a coyote coming. It is also good to carry a walking stick. Do not think that your dog is safe in your backyard just because you may have a 5 foot wall or chain link fence.
I'd prefer a good crossbow. More like shooting a rifle. Archery has never been my thing.
