I’ve been wanting a .38. I can’t decide on hammer or hammer-less.

Great. Now you have to get into a boat and go out into the middle of a large lake and capsize. All guns lost.

Q. What's the best gun to have?
A. The one that's closest when you need it.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.

Congrats... make sure you get some lessons and be sure to join a gun organization (I used to promote the NRA but they support Democrats and democrats want to confiscate your brand new gun so I’m miffed at them at the moment)...

two things to remember:
1.) all gund are loaded unless you have physically checked and verified otherwise
2.) never pick up a gun without checking to see if it is loaded and that definitely includes a chamber check for semi-autos.
You’re a new gun owner. I know old timers that have had accidental discharges for failing to remember these rules. One of them put a 7.62 nato round through every wall of his house and 4 layers of bathtub because he forgot to check the chamber on an FN-FAL.

Got my wife and two oldest boys 22 rifles last year. We enjoy our Saturday trips to the range to practice.
The surprising thing is my wife is a damn crack shot. She usually beats the dog out of us boys.
Whimpering away ... dangit... what a woman.

Now learn how to properly use it and teach those around you.

Good for you! My son bought me a Mossberg 500A pistol-grip shotgun for my birthday - I also have my late husband’s rifle. I am planning on joining my local Rod and Gun club - good practice range, skeet-shooting and archery. Lots of old hunters to help me learn how to use the thing.

I almost bought a nice pellet rifle today. I was in Wal-Mart and decided to get a Crossman barrel cocker. I could not get it off the pegs which held it.
Apparently you have to use some sort of device to remove it. I looked around for maybe 5 minutes and never could find anyone to help me so just left.

It's a S&W .38. I think it's a good beginning. It is. But you should have went we a .357, you can "load down" to .38 for plinking and drop the .357 in when you are defending the house. A .357 takes both .357 and .38. Same with 44 mag, it will take .44 special. The new .32 can load a bunch of rounds, check it out for your next purchase.....and congrats.

Congratulations! Feels good, doesn't it? I purchased my first earlier this year, though I took a different route and started with a used long gun:

Congrats! Nice handgun. I definitely recommend hitting a class this week. My wife likes her Taurus - it’s black finish so she can easily accessorize - lol!
