I finally did it! I bought my first gun. I think of it as the start of a collection. :D
It's a S&W .38. I think it's a good beginning. Next up, my CCP.
Thanks. I’d shoot a hole through my purse for the element of surprise. LOL
Right now I only have my old Colt SS .357 and never can remember IF it is the Python or Cobra . . . LOL
and last year for Christmas I bought the Ruger .380 LCP but at the time did not know ammo was so hard to come by locally. But recently after months and months of checking, I did buy 400 rounds. Didn’t want to be greedy so left one box on the shelf. :) I still need to get my laser grips for the LCP but was laid up with a broken ankle for several months recently which cramped both my shopping and getting around fir way too long.
Cool! I think it’s a good first start. I had a person with me today who had many guns and she recommended the vendor I used and the gun I got. I’m happy with what I got. But I can already tell that I will be creating a collection.
It’s amazing how quickly you realize that with your first gun.
Congrats! May you have many more! LOL
<< Ive been wanting a .38. I cant decide on hammer or hammer-less >>.
I recommend hammerless, like the S&W Model 442 (or equivalent). You don’t have time to cock a gun in a gunfight. Learn to work the double-action action trigger smoothly whether you go with or sans a hammer.
For really good training:

Congrats! Nice handgun. I definitely recommend hitting a class this week. My wife likes her Taurus - it’s black finish so she can easily accessorize - lol!
I’m not familiar with a CZ9,.. but hey, you can never have too many guns. I have a S&W 38 revolver and I carry it everywhere I go. While your looking around check out the Keltec 380’s. Happy Shooting!!!
Nothing feels as good in your hand as a S&W revolver.
I have a Crossman .177 and think it’s a very, very good thing to have.
Certainly not as a defensive weapon. But as far as taking small game, squirrels and birds, etc. it is almost unparalleled.
It fires pretty much dead on. And except for a slight Floop!! sound, it is almost totally silent.
Won’t frighten the game away... and if you’re trying to get something to charbque, that’s a good thing.
Heck, just pull one out of a box on the shelf and start pointing it at things. I’m sure you’ll get noticed then.

I was raised by a cop on gun rules and know them front to back. But accidents will happen........
I had a friend and his nephew (the gun expert) over to evaluate my collection. I automatically pulled back the slide on one semi-auto to inspect for any rounds in the barrel, seeing it empty, I let it go then ejected the magazine before handing the gun to my friend.
Fortunately my friend instinctively pulled the slide back to inspect for any round in the chamber and guess what, there was one there. When I released the slide it automatically injected a round into the chamber prior to me removing the magazine........The magazine should have been removed first!!!
I still shudder whenever I think of that moment.......
Having custody of a loaded weapon does not arm you. The skill to use the weapon is what arms a man.
Yeah, I thought about slipping something into my pocket. I probably would have had a bunch of “associates” trying to help me then.
good choice
I have almost as many air rifles and pistols as I do firearms. They are a lot of fun and can also be useful.
At one time I had a huge collection of both but was forced to sell most of them but am slowly rebuilding both collections.
One of my favorites was an RWS model 52 which was rated at 1200 fps with regular pellets. I think most air rifles are rated a bit optimistically on velocity but that one was hot.
Congratulations!
Don't you hate when that happens?
I recommend that you make it a habit to lock the slide back as well before handing off a gun. If it's a revolver, you can leave the cylinder open.
I have a small semi-auto that not only doesn't have a slide lock, but which locks the slide closed when the magazine is removed. One basically has to have an empty magazine handy in order to properly unload the thing.
