Thank you, Potlatch! : ) I had Snapped the Butterfly Pic in 2008, but Made a New Frame for it for Sunday. The Butterflies here are So Pretty, and I Especially Love the Swallowtails.

My Place isn't the King Ranch; it's just a Piece of Property in the Country that my Husband and I Bought 8 Years Ago, and then Added a Few More Acres to it Recently. I Wanted to Name it after the Lord Jesus Christ, so Decided to Call it "the King's Ranch." I Love the Beautiful Wildlife here, after Living in the City by a Superhighway for 25 Years; God is Good!

A Special Virtue
November 9, 2010

In her book Food in Medieval Times, author Melitta Adamson writes of European culinary delights in the Middle Ages. Wild game, pastries, puddings, and other exotic foods illustrate the creative joy taken in food preparation. But with all these wonderful entrées there was a problem—overeating. This tendency was compounded by the Christian calendar, which abounded with fasts and feasts. Abstaining from meals was often followed by gluttony.

To address this problem, theologian Thomas Aquinas uplifted the Christian character quality of temperance, calling it “a special virtue.” He saw how self-restraint should extend to all areas of life.

For the believer, temperance, or moderation, does not derive from sheer human willpower. Instead, it comes from the Holy Spirit who gives us self-control: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23). Self-control is the Spirit-produced quality that enables us to be “temperate in all things” (1 Cor. 9:25).

Overindulgence in food, rest, work, recreation, ministry, and a variety of “good things” can be corrected only through the balance of self-control. Take a few minutes to ask God to produce that special virtue in you.

If gaining the fruit of self-control
Is something you’re trying to do;
Submit your will in everything
To the Spirit living in you. —Kieda

To gain self-control, give the Spirit control.

Read: 1 Cor. 9:24-27

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. —Galatians 5:22-23

Thank you, potlatch. It’s hard to catch up if you miss a few days. Everyone finds such neat graphics to post. I have tons of them, but after the opening posts of the day, usually I’d rather just enjoy others’ finds.

DADDY'S SHOES

When I was young, I'd try on Daddy's shoes...

I'd scoot around, and everyone would smile.

They'd pat me on the head and say, (amused)

“Don't worry, you'll grow to them, afterwhile...”

But now, a lot of years have come and gone,

And looking at His life, it's plain to see...

As hopefully, again I try them on...

His shoes I find...are still too big for me.

You know what gets my goat - torques my jaws - grinds my gears?

When the Socialist/Communist present their ideas as something new and grand.

Socialism is just warmed over Feudalism with the government's leadership in place of the nobility. Socialism is just share-cropping for the government. Do their useful idiots really think they will still be allowed to sit on their a$$ and draw a check when the government owns everything?

When the Roman Empire collapsed and barbarian "terrorist" threatened, they told us: "Give us a portion of your crops and we'll protect you". Soon they owned all the land and we worked for them. Then, not only our land, but our bodies belonged to them and they slept with our brides on our wedding nights. Often our firstborn was really not "ours".

Don't be deceived. The Government does not engage in charity and any entity big enough to provide for you is big enough to control you. Even the protection for which the government was created in the first place, is constantly being parleyed into a means of control. They will buy your vote until they no longer need to buy it because they own you and then... they will collect... big time!

I just can't find
a paradigm
in which I am the King
Though I've searched far
I'm ne'er the czar
or any royal thing
Upon this Earth
potentially a serf
constant struggle to be free
those I elect
seek to yoke my neck
while saying they do it for me

Love your darling graphic. Elton’s song is cute...very upbeat music! Thanks, Billie. I had an appointment this morning and ran off and left a mess here....LOL! (I shouldn’t be so messy, then I wouldn’t have to worry about it.)
