Karen Carpenter is at the top of the list in my book. She had very few peers.

Also, what about Veronica Bennett (Ronettes)? Dionne Warwick?

And if Pat Benatar is on the list (rightfully so great voice), then Deborah Harry deserves a place.

Nana Mouskouri

Janet Vogel (sang “Yo-u, yo-u, yo-u, ... “for the Skyliner’s “Since I don’t have you.)

The unidentified woman who sings the background in the Token’s version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

The unidentified woman who sings background for the Sandpiper’s version of “Guantanamera.” Hauntingly beautiful.

I think that because Karen Carpenter wasn’t really hip or glamorous enough, she is sometimes overlooked on these kinds of lists.

Not a bad list and I do agree with most of your choices. I would also add Martina McBride, but I will admit that the messages in her songs may have influenced my opinion of her voice.

I am sure I will get slammed, but Barbra Streisand also has a great voice. Can’t stand her politics though.

Fun and interesting thread. Thanks for starting it.

Of all time? The “noses” seem a bit presumptuous since every singer on that list was born in the 20th Century.

You’re right....Linda Ronstadt belongs on that list, I’ll add Bonnie Raitt. Gotta admit that Diana Ross should be in Whitney Houston’s spot. Whitney was put on the list for ONE song.

Any list that doesn’t include Karen Carpenter is just wrong.

And Mama Cass.

Yet another vote here for Karen Carpenter. Even though some of the songs her dopey brother made her sing were horrific she was an angel with a perfect voice.

And Bonnie Herman from the Singers Unlimited was just as exceptional and quite a pro.

Her rendition of God Bless America for one of the Bill Gaither specials was incredible!
