No Rosa Ponselle?
No Ella Fitzgerald?
No Barbra Streisand?
No Deanna Durbin?

The list unfortunately was not made by a well-informed person.

For those of you who don’t remember Deanna Durbin:

Deanna was 16 when she sang the first clip.

The famed cellist Mstislav Rostropovich said that he modelled his cello playing on Deanna Durbin’s singing style.

Deanna Durbin retired at the age of 28.
She was tired of performing and turned down the lead in both “Kiss Me Kate” and “My Fair Lady”.
She is now 88 and lives in a small town outside Paris.

“The unidentified woman who sings background for the Sandpiper’s version of “Guantanamera.” Hauntingly beautiful.”

On a similar note, I’ve always wondered who the female singer was that sang the haunting backup vocals on Sam Cooke’s version of Summertime.

Winton Churchill was obsessed with Deanna Durbin.

I’d like to add Hanson to the list.

I went to a Mariah Carey concert a few years back at the request of my offspring. Until you see her live and close up you do not realize the range and power of her voice. Extra points for being very attractive then.

A young lady with a very grown up voice: Renee Olstead.

I felt the same way, although I’m not really a fan of hers. Absolutely stunning voice.

If she can make a guy like me who isn’t into her style of music like her, that’s a huge vote.

You got me thinking about an episode of Babylon 5... Erica Gimpel of “Fame” fame sings.

Where’s Big Mama Thornton and Joan Sutherland? (Hmmm...would have loved to have seen each of them do the other one’s material).

Thanks Liberty, it only took 167 posts for someone to get serious. Bless you.
Certainly past her prime, but still a class act:

I don’t know 10 best, but a couple of women’s voices I have really liked were:

Petula Clark
Anne Murray
Karen Carpenter

Rick is a lucky guy. If you have her ear, tell her she’s proved her chops on the standards. It’s time for her produce a signature song, though I’d love to hear her cover Glenn Miller.

Justin Beiber hasn't been around long enough to make a modern all time greatest list. He needs another couple of months.
