Normally portal tombs, which are among the oldest built structures still standing in Northern Ireland, are off limits to excavators and must be preserved. But after the massive capstone of this portal tomb fell to the ground earlier this year, archaeologists will be able to uncover the secrets it has held for millennia before repairs are carried out. Tirnony Dolmen is between 5,000 and 6,000 years old, according to Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIIEA) archaeologist Paul Logue. "After standing in Northern Ireland weather for over 5,000 years some of the tomb's structural stones have begun to crack, causing the capstone to slip," he said... The dolmen is remarkable for the free-standing orthostat, 1.8m high, which is beside one of the portal-stones. Behind the tilted capstone is a well-defined square chamber.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this movie. People will start getting their skin eaten any day now.

OK...if they fall apart or naturally break open you can look in them.

But no digging bodies up!

Why can’t they be excavated and explored?

Formed of dust and to dust he returned. They may find evidence that he was here —but he’s gone-and gone away long before the
capstone raised over his cold bones came staggering to ground
rather like a drunk sittin on his arse.

Thanks Cowboy Bob. That building style is found here and there, including Precolumbian examples in the Americas.

Probably nothing, now. :’) Each time one of the prehistoric burials have been excavated or explored, they’ve been found to have been already entered, possibly in prehistoric times. And one large mound in the UK was found to be just a big pile of chalk that may have been used in lieu of a water cistern.
