Well, your wait, if you were waiting, is over.
The trailer for the Coen Brothers' TRUE GRIT has been released. Thoughts? It's a good lookin' trailer. However, that song instantly drove me insane. The whole time I was like, "When will this fade out?" Maybe something instrumental would have been better? I might be alone in this thought.
Other than that, it's really my only complaint. It also reminds me of how bad ass and manly John Wayne was. Then again, so is Jeff Bridges, who from the looks of this trailer slides comfortably into the role of Rooster Cogburn. The Coen Brothers look like they have another wonderful film on their hands...and it's a remake!
What do you guys think? To check it out in HD, head over to Apple trailers.
Official synopsis:
"Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross's (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him -- over his objections -- to hunt down Chaney. Her father's blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man."
Hepburn was a mega lib. If you see The Aviator by Scorsese with Leo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes you will see.
Howard meets Kate’s family and they are a bunch of wealthy CT WASP marxist snobs. They make fun of Hughes because he is an engineer who makes things. They were real trust fund marxists.
YES! I’ve been waiting for the trailer. And hey, naysayers, give it a chance. I’m a fan of the original True Grit. It’s a seriously gutsy choice for a remake. Love the Coen bros. I think Bridges is a good choice. Supposedly there version is closer to the book. Glad to see the Western still alive. Rock on Coen Bros!
The Cowboys is a great movie, except for the part where John Wayne gets killed. That scene ruins it for me. So earlier, John Wayne and the kids see the bad guys on the next ridge over, looking for them. But that night they build a big campfire and all sit around it with their backs to the dark forest.
So John Wayne didn’t have anyone pull sentry duty? No listening posts? No scouts? No preemptive attack or attempt to confuse the enemy? Nothing in the way of hightened alert?
If John Wayne dies in a movie, it should be because he was being heroic, not stupid, that’s all I’m saying... heh
Fletcher J
lol. That’s some very funny good thoughts there.
Give the Duke a break. If you will remember he had put all the boys guns in the chuck wagon. The chuck wagon had broken down and was far behind them. What was he supposed to do? Take on the whole gang by himself? He was trying to keep the boys from getting killed by letting the rustlers take the herd without a fight. But Bruce Dern’s character was to big an a**hole to just take the herd a leave it at that. I seem to remember he sent a kid back to get the chuck wagon but the kid was caught by the rustlers.
“O Rooster Where Art Thou”
Bruce Dern played a convincing bad guy. I just watched “The Cowboys” for the 10 time last month and he was great in it.
Matt Damon as the Texas Ranger? Gotta be better that Glen Campbell...

Glen Campbell tested for the role but he kept falling off the horse.
Congratulations this is the first time I’ve seen the one trick pony label assigned to the Coens.
Congratulations this is the first time I’ve seen the one trick pony label assigned to the Coens.
This is their second remake after The Ladykillers a few years ago.
Not on DVD yet. I would call it interesting just because it exists. Not that good of a movie but still worth a watch.
Second that.
I remember this movie. Someone trying to further Darby’s and Campbell’s acting career. Didn’t work: they were both bad actors. But there was a tradition of casting young singers in John Wayne movies to bring in the youngsters. Think Ricky Nelson in Rio Bravo.
Mia Farrow was considered for Mattie but I always thought Sally Field would have worked out well. She’s a genuine actress. Over all, I love the movie. You get Jeff Corey whining and sniveling, Strother Martin at his very best and Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper. And then the Duke in the part of a lifetime. (And remember Judge Parker popping a peppermint before passing a death sentence, lol!?)
I’m also a huge fan of the book. Charles Portis writes in the voice of a religious, one-armed, miserly woman of true grit. The stilted dialogue has always rang true to me.
John Wayne: “Fill your hands, you son-of-a-bitch.” Loved it.
??? Are you insane?
I will be there to see it. Libs in it or not.
Publicists always say the new version is “closer to the book” and better than the original. But as a major fan of the book and the film, I can assure you that the original film is very close to the book. Will Rooster still have his Chinese cook or is that too politically incorrect, lol!?
