Swing sets removed at some W.Va. schools

CHARLESTON, W.Va.—Elementary school playgrounds in one West Virginia county are losing their swing sets.

Swings are being removed from Cabell County schools in southern West Virginia in part because of lawsuits over injuries.

Cabell County schools safety manager Tim Stewart said Wednesday that a lot of parents are accusing him of being un-American, but he says the cost of maintaining a safe surface is too expensive.

Stewart says a lawsuit in the past year involved a youngster who broke his arm jumping off a swing like Superman. It was settled for $20,000.

Other equipment such as monkey bars will remain. Stewart says the schools are able to maintain the proper protection underneath them.

When I was driving by the elementary school here I noticed the kids walking single file with their hands behind their backs as though they were handcuffed. It just looks so odd. When I was a kid we played jacks and jumped rope. I guess they are afraid of hanging and swallowing metal now.

This Marxist-Nazi design on how are children are protected will have future kids “growing up” in a plastic personal bubble, 24/7/365, after which every square inch of their adult environment will have every possible risk removed, because they will have no skills at risk assessment or overcoming problems from taking risks.

Doesn't it sound like the final human civilization that the lead character in HG Wells “The Time Machine” found? A bunch of human drones organized by an inhuman elite who descended to the physical cannibalism that their intellectual authoritarian streak was destined to become.

You say it's not Marxist-Nazi inspired? But of course it is.

It begins by tearing down what is; by making society unable to function unless every second of life is governed by some law. It begins by "suing" every organization and every one for everything that goes wrong, as though the individual cannot possibly be responsible, on their own; and it uses a legal profession and a judiciary that refuses to consider either true negligence or the individual responsibility of the person who obtained a "loss". Eventually the law will be used to try to mandate "risk" out of every conceivable circumstance (as if it could). It all favors no one but the totalitarians.

I remember one year back when I was in 4th or 5th grade. We had two kids with broken arms and one kid fractured his collarbone in my class alone. I fell out of a swing that year and got a nasty concussion.

Bones heal but forcing kids to grow up in a plastic bubble does irreparable damage. My 2 cents.

I didn’t think about the fact that insurance companies don’t want to pay either! So actually, the insurance companies also have lawyers and we automatically blame someone else. So, it’s just another part of making money. Wouldn’t it be great if insurance companies, banks and law firms all had to be non-profit?

That does make sense. I never looked at it that way.

This is what happens when you have female Principals.

Accidents in Children is God’s way of saying “you should not have done that and maybe you should pay more attention to what is going on around you!”.
I learned that at age 13 by going barefoot when I shouldn’t have. Damn near cost me a Right Foot. Amputation was 2 days away but for God, Penicillin and a Damn good, Doctor Chambers!

We did not have swing sets at our school. We had one set of monkey bars on one side of the school and one set of monkey bars on the other side of the school. There was a “black top” area where we played games that required a hard surface. We had a baseball field backstop, too. That’s it. Teachers actually made up games for us to play. No equipment necessary other than balls. If we wanted to swing, we had to walk to a neighborhood park. Amazing how we survived.

Meanwhile,it is just fine for children to suffer brain damage at the hands of incompetent union teachers.

Good Gravy Sakes Alive. I just can’t stand it. Lawsuits...implies responsibility and negligence.

I think people should just keep their kids at home on down pillows and carry them from room to room. That way they will never get hurt.

“This is what happens when you have female Principals.”

Sorry, it does not require a particular gender for such school policies to be made and there is no evidence that such policies have been made more frequently by female principals than male principals.

This is what happens when you have female Principals.

It's not based on gender. It is the marxist-based PC culture of "no child allowed to enjoy themselves except for sex and drugs."

Jump ropes are next, but not to worry - when the kids grow up, they can participate in legalized gambling, take medical marijuana, and engage in sexual promiscuity and a variety of high-risk behaviors.

We were warned, of course; Aldous Huxley foresaw it all. Too bad no one paid any attention.

Some of the sternest and toughest educators i’ve ever been around were female. I don’t think that has anything to do with it. T

Wow... they still have jump ropes? Someone must be paying attention to the danger.

When I was in school, the swing sets, and monkey bars all had a nice soft concrete pad beneath them. I managed to survive.
