Do you know when I take my nap, I take the phone off the hook. I can be here all day and the phone won’t ring and the minute I lay down....rrrrring! I feel I need to rest and so I do! If I was expecting a very important call or something, I wouldn’t take it off the hook.

Have a lovely evening, Polly!!

Pursuing Hospitality
September 27, 2010

In the New Testament, hospitality is a hallmark of Christian living. It is listed as a characteristic of church leaders (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:8) and is commanded for every follower of Jesus as an expression of love (Rom. 12:13; 1 Peter 4:9). But its meaning goes deeper than being a gracious host or opening our homes to guests.

The Greek word translated “hospitality” means “love of strangers.” When Paul speaks of being “given to hospitality” (Rom. 12:13), he is calling us to pursue relationships with people who are in need. It is not an easy task.

Writer Henri Nouwen likens it to reaching out to those we meet on our way through life—people who may be estranged from their culture, country, friends, family, or even from God. Nouwen writes: “Hospitality, therefore, means primarily the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend instead of an enemy. Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place.”

Whether we inhabit a home, a college dorm, a prison cell, or a military barracks, we can welcome others as a way of showing our love for them and for Christ. Hospitality is making room for people in need.

Reaching out to needy people,
Showin*g them our love and care,
Is one way that God can use us
To bring hope to their despair. —Sper

Hospitality can fill the emptiness of a lonely heart.

Read: Romans 12:3-13

Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. —1 Peter 4:9

Oh, Johnn, I hope you don't mind if I just sit here on the veranda, and sip coffee, this morning.

Last night, I was taking the 'furry kid' out for her last 'potty trip' before bed. As we were about to take the step off the porch, to the sidewalk - there was something moving, right where we would have put our feet.

I grabbed her, and put my flashlight on a diamondback rattlesnake! It wasn't a real big one, - but it's bite would have killed my little six pound Lindy!

Needless to say, I didn't sleep too well after that. (And, thank goodness I have other exits from the house!)

Thank you for your lovely breakfast offer. The peaceful view will be the best thing I could have, this morning!

SNAKE, SNAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I hop up on the footstool and wring my hands and whimper)

Well not actually, I grew up on an Indian reservation, and rattlesnake was a nifty snack! (especially butter fried in a shallow pan.)

Glad to hear you were alert and timely, saving the little fella from a bad situation.

Your meal is on the veranda and you can loaf as long as you like!

Even a cup of cool water is noted.

Matthew 10:42 KJV
"42.And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward."
and Mark 9:41 (King James Version) "41.For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward." ________________________________________________________

Water is another one of those things that are part of the miracles of God, we are ever surrounded with and rarely take note of being there.

Water is ‘life giving’ ... we can not create water except in small amounts in a laboratory.

God is good. If we have eyes to see, we are all a miracle and NOT FOTGOTTEN BY GOD. It does not much matter if we are largely unknown or forgotten, except for our immediate family, friends, fellow associates.

We each stand before God accountable for all we do or do not do.

Father, help us in our day, in Jesus name. Amen

GOOD MILITARY MONDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.

This is sweet and nostalgia too
Sentimental in things past
Reminds me of our bodies ...
the changes wrought by time and care
or the lack thereof,
we learn slowly, mostly
yet inside we feel at our best
young, still playful, wise even
desiring a sense of rest,
peace and a quieted heart,
of beauty, and memories
from the past ...

reverie ...

Your welcome, and while your here, I may as well send over an order of an eclair for you to sample with a fresh cup of coffee. (I hope you don’t mind if the wandering musicians stop by and serenade you for a while?)

What a delightful graphic
And tender poem, ladies.
Thank you!

Both of my Grandmothers put the same water pitcher on the table for every meal.

One Grandma was a farmer's wife.
She and Grandpa sold home grown vegetables and fruits from their porch every day.
That grandma used an old aluminum water pitcher.
It was banged up, with many scratches and dents
But for five decades, always contained fresh, cold water.

My other Grandma considered herself of the 'social class'.
She placed the same water pitcher on the table for every meal.
It was sterling silver, with intricate detail,
And was always polished to a high shine,
and also served fresh, cold water for over fifty years.

Both water pitchers proudly sat side by side in my hutch,
Long after each grandma was gone,
And each pitcher, for many years, brought fond childhood memories, at every glance.
