When the media b*stards declared they would uniformly stop showing footage of the towers and the attacks, I knew what we were in for. It was the equivalent of refusing to show Pearl Harbor atrocities and kissing the emperor.

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

Just Another Sunday?
September 12, 2010

Early on a sunny Sunday afternoon after church, I headed out for a walk around the neighborhood. A man was trimming his grass along the sidewalk, and we greeted each other with the usual “Hello, how are you?” In a negative tone, he replied, “It’s just another Sunday.” Later, I wondered what he had meant by that. Was he saying, I’m just doing my chores—going through the motions?

Sometimes even church attendance can become a matter of merely going through the motions on just another Sunday. For the believers in the early church (Acts 2:41-47), joining with fellow believers was a source of excitement. That was when the church first started and everyone was a new believer—so they were bound to be enthusiastic. But what about us? What can we do to make each Sunday special?

Go with the anticipation of meeting with God. While He is with us all the time (Heb. 13:5), God is with us in a unique way as we gather with others who know Him (Matt. 18:20; James 4:8). Bring your burdens and praises to Him.

Go to learn about God. We may not learn something new every week, but we can always be encouraged by the truths of God’s Word (Ps. 119:105). Expect to hear from Him.

Go to fellowship with others. We need each other in this Christian journey. Encourage others, challenge them in their faith, and pray for them (Heb. 10:24-25).

Lord, give us a renewed enthusiasm of heart for attending church, so that it won’t be just another Sunday.

If you want to be spiritually fed,
go to church with a hunger for the Word.

Read: Acts 2:41-47

They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine. —Acts 2:42

I just had to tell you that that little bird is so precious. Oh, how I wish we had those birds in our area. Its a cutie!
I may be a tiny bit better but not as I wish yet. I will be patient and I will stay thankful. By the way, I checked out your link and posted a prayer for that precious family. How sad it all is! Its very hard to understand these things.

I think they reside in the New Mexico/southwest area..I love these birds, too!

I know you’ll be happy when this is over and you feel better,(((jaycee))).
I read this thread at times but rarely comment..I thought today’s commentary was timely in view of 911 and this San Bruno fire and loss...We are confused at times when tragedy hits us and others..

To: MEG33; All

When my son, Ricky was nine, he, too, was diagnosed with leukemia. He was a brilliant child, and loved the Lord. He had read the Bible three times through, by the time he was nine.

One day, between treatments, he said, “Mom - what’s it like to die?”

I told him I wasn’t sure, but I supposed it was like the cacoons, who missed their brother. When they found the empty cacoon, they mourned their loss. As they were carrying the empty shell up the hill to the cacoon graveyard, crying, a butterfly was flying above them, saying in his loudest butterfly voice, “But I’m FREE! Can’t you see?”

Ricky smiled, and I knew he understood.

He then said, “Am I going to die, Mommy?”

With a lump in my throat, and holding back tears, I told him, “Yes, and so am I, and so is your Daddy, and your brother and your sister. We are all going to die, someday - but only God knows when.”

“Are you afraid Ricky?”

I can still hear his reply, as his eyes lit up:

“Oh, NO! I have so many questions for Abraham and Moses, I can’t WAIT to meet them!”

And, shortly thereafter, Ricky went HOME. And, in the arms of Jesus, I can faintly hear, “But, I’m FREE! Can’t you see?”

Words fail. What a beautiful recounting of your precious son.
“Oh, NO! I have so many questions for Abraham and Moses, I can’t WAIT to meet them!”

May we all be so joyful.

God bless and comfort you, dear yorkie. I know He has given you strength.

Just devastating.
