Little Pond
self | August 15,2010 | swampsniper

I made my first expedition with the new glasses today, I can see pretty good again!

The pond is almost dry, we need some sustained rain, the little showers just won't keep up with evaporation and seepage.

The Snowy Egret is a young bird, one of last years, still got yellow high up on the legs. This years chicks have more yellow.

The Little Blue Herons are mature birds, the White Ibis mixed generations. They don't chase the chicks off like the Herons and Egrets do.

I missed a perfect shot last night.

Some canada geese flew over that were lit from underneath with a dark sky above right at sunset. However I did take first place in a contest with a shot of antique tractors. LOL

Ok, sorry, it happened to me... computer freaked out...

Thank you again, for your photos! Beautiful! In Los Angeles, we have a park with a lake and have diving birds and herons and cormorants(sp?), etc. But, I love how You can see them free and not in a city. Thank you for sharing.

Glad the new glasses are working out.

I've had several hummers at my feeder lately, but I can never grab a camera quickly enough to shoot the little speed demons. I did shoot some pigeons earlier today, but don't worry, they were the clay variety!

Almost forgot. Is your daughters' job working out OK?

Thanks Swampsniper. I guess I have never seen as good a study of their legs. I never realized the tiny size of the bones, but the strength in the legs is amazing.

That one looks like an “old stick in the mud”! LOL

You do need some rain! I love the blue herons, I miss seeing them the most since moving.
Took my 8 year old grandson to the beach today, that’s what he wanted to do for his birthday. Beautiful but really hot - great day.

Ahh! Even in this heat the birds stay cool. Outstanding as usual SS! How are you holding up with this heat? We’ve stopped running the AC due to the expense. Man, I don’t remember sweating this much before but have grown accustomed to 78 degrees. Can’t afford anymore!

Keep them coming Swamp! Waiting on the Winter here!
