Just wondering about Microsoft Security Essentials. How does it compare to Norton, AVG etc? Often when its free you tend to get your money's worth. Is that the case here? Should I use it in conjunction with other anti-virus software?
” Its light and effective.
Avoid Norton at all costs.
“
I echo these sentiments . MSE works just fine for me .
Works great but you must remove Norton and McAfee and other similar programs. My computers speeded up when I made the changeover.
As always, your collective opinions are a GREAT NATIONAL TREASURE. I will now proceed to the MSE download site. Best Regards! Don
I have been using MSE on two computers for about a year, it works very well with no problems at all....On one computer that my wife uses I also run Spybot because she likes to open unsolicited emails....LOL
Malwarebytes antimalware will get the other things antivirus software does not get.
A little off topic but I had a VERY nasty virus yesterday called “Wireshark”. It took me nearly all day to get rid of the stinking thing. I ended up using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware because MSE didn’t catch the offending items. Ran the program once and it disappeared like magic (hopefully). I was getting really paranoid that every search I did to find answers was linked to another virus program.
Psst, hey Shadow, over here... :)
Antivir 2010 rouge will disable or prevent malwarebytes from installing or running. Rkill can terminate antivir 2010 and others so you can run malwarebytes.
Good luck!

How you personally may relate to that is TMI for me on a Saturday, but have a wonderful time! :)
Just had it installed.
Three things:
1. It was free.
2. Better than AVG.
3. Virus free for 24 hours, I guess.
They did make that pretty effective.
Stay Safe..
We ran it in a VM test lab at work, and wasn’t terribly impressed with it, especially given the cost.
Kaspersky, FTW!
Installed WSE. It immediately sent RegCure.exe to the recycle bin leaving all the other files in the folder intact.
Searched the web for replacement.Found a list of registry cleaners .
Guess what ?? RegCure was at the top of the list with a 9.1 rating out of 10.
Uninstalled WSE and recovered RegCure.exe from the recycle bin.
Essential.

Do you have any experience with MalwareBytes and Windows 7 64-bit?
Putting Microsoft in charge of anything security related gives me the creeps. These are the folks to whom “Trusted Computing” means THEY get to use hardware and software YOU paid for to spy on you and confound you without your consent (except for having bought the crap in the first place).
