I know. Big Deal. Who cares? Why post a vanity about it? I don't know.
Jaws came out when I was five years old. I just watched it for the first time. I had heard that the special effects weren't that great. So I never bothered watching it. It was actually pretty decent.
I don't know about Jaws 2 - 4. Should I bother?
Did you know that Spielberg was worried Jaws would be a big failure?
I saw “Jaws”, for the first time, when it came out in the theaters. Haven’t been near the ocean, or boats, or ships since. LOL! As for the sequels, they should have stopped with “Jaws”.
“I had heard that the special effects weren’t that great.”
They weren’t. That is what makes the movie so great. The mechanical shark was supposed to be in the movie from the very beginning and have lots of scenes. Except the thing kept breaking. So, they had to improvise, and just give the illusion of a shark.
Turns out, what you DON’T see makes the movie so great. The fear of the unknown and all that. Seeing some girl getting yanked around by something unknown is a lot scarier than watching one get ripped apart by a shark. (Not as gory - but scarier).
I returned a couple of days later before it was missed. Much more clueful about the universe of adults. Part of it anyway.

Jaws II is worth a gander, but the rest are a joke. I think I heard that Jaws I was Spielberg’s first major hit.
I make my kids watch it every time we get ready to go to the beach.
I wouldn't bother with 2-4.
Any other 30 year old movies you haven’t seen?
I beleive these types of movies have a larger affect on younger audiences.
I think “Grease” is on TCM tonight. Might want to check it out.
I still haven't seen any of the Godfather movies, Psycho, North by Northwest.
There are more, but those are the ones that everyone tells me were great movies.
HA....I saw it when it first came out...it was the ONLY movie where I didn’t eat the food I bought at the concession....I was too engrossed in the movie!
I’m not a Jaws fan, but it is an effective suspense movie, albeit gory. I’ve seen at least some of the other sequels and do not remember them at all. Infer at will.
I dunno. I’ll have to look.
Please allow me to say that Godfather and Godfather 2 are movies of such amaazing quality that they could be described as a lost art at this point.
It wasn’t that scary to me. I guess it might have been scary in 1975. The first movie that scared me was Nightmare on Elm Street. I didn’t sleep for a couple of days after that one.
I’m a Gen Xer and I have never watch any of the Stars Wars movies. My contemporaries find that a big crime. I did see jaws a few times though. Great flick and more my speed. Refuse to see the Decraprio Titanic too.
I saw Jaws for the first time when it was first released, too.
Only it inspired me to buy a boat and do some fishing along the Atlantic coast.
And I loved every minute on the water, and look forward to my next and better boat.
You are all set for the remainder of the summer. Those are all great movies worth seeing, IMHO. I’m a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock movies, BTW.
