LAKE WORTH-- You can barely hear it's meow and that's understandable.
A 4-week-old dark brown kitten and his white and silver-haired litter mate are downright tired after struggling to stay alive.
"They found them all bound up and they were near death," says Inga Hanley of Adopt A Cat Foundation.
A couple found the kittens on a boat in a Lake Worth storage yard Sunday.
The kittens were tied together with fishing line, their little front paws so tightly wound, they are now 3 times the size they are supposed to be.
"We still don't know if their front leg will be amputated. Time will tell," said Hanley.
Hanley is giving the kittens anti-biotic and vitamins in hopes that they will recuperate enough to fight off the infection on their paws.
She says kittens used as fish bait is nothing new and it gets worse.
"They use then for gator bait too. There are a lot of things people do with little kittens, that's why they always tell you don't advertise free kittens in the paper beaus a lot of horrible things happen to them," she said.
She's seen a lot of horrible things in 25 years of doing rescues, "It shocks me every time because you think people couldn't do such a thing, but it doesn't surprise me," she said.

I rented a cottage on a farm for many years. The farmer said that is what he did with most of the kittens. (Burlap sack + rock + pond). I couldn’t do it either. He said his youngest daughter thought for the longest time cats only gave birth to one kitten at a time!
Same thing happened to me. Was looking for a poodle puppy and thought I would rescue one. The cost from the pound was $300.00 and the cost from the poodle rescue was $400. I looked online and found a rare tri-color for $250 with papers or $200 without. The price made the decision for me.
Veternary colleges and their students should be sponsoring spaying clinics EXCEPT their graduates are more concerned with keeping the fees high.
In the long run spaying can save a lot of money and aggravation.But liberals in or out of government are more concerned with controlling people than actually helping solve any problems.

I’m thinking he wanted a new cat now and then to replace the older ones - rodent control. I’m sure it was a matter of cost, and attitude. Farmers/ranchers have a whole ‘nother attitude towards animals. Not mean - just different.
It’s unfortunate it didn’t occur to you to ask the little bimbo at the shelter how much they would get for the cats they “put down”.

It DID not originate in WV coal mines it originated from being out in the sun all day manually laboring and having your neck burnt red. Just using the word in that manner is ignorant and degrading to many of us who come from blue collar backgrounds.
I've worked outside over half my adult life. In South Florida. In the summer. I don't need lectured by you or anyone else on my lack of blue collar skills or background.

I understand where you are coming, but the devil is in the details. Your statement begs a question: Knowing that a kitten does not have the cranial capacity of a human being, nore the living experience necessary to interpret pain the way you or I - or even a just born infant - do, how much pain and suffering do you think is involved regarding using the kitten as bait? How about if it was a baby squirrel or Mouse? Where do we draw the line and who gets to draw that line, and based on what justification.
I guess, what I am saying is that I can think it is disgusting, but I don’t have the authority to stop them, just as a PETA member thinks eating bacon is disgusting but they don’t have the authority to stop me from eating it.
So when does a person or entity have the authority to stop one person from eating or otherwise damaging a non-human animal? My take would be when that animal is someone elses property. It is really all about property rights - at least that is how I read the constitution.
Personally, I was more than happy to pay $100 for my cat from a shelter. First of all, providing food and medical care to hundreds of animals isn’t free. Second of all, she’s worth a lot more than that.

As long as someone is not harming a person, or someone else’s property, then its none of mine nor anyone else’s business.
I’m sure that there are plenty of people who disagree with using crickets, or minnows, or worms, etc to fish, or disagree with fishing an hunting itself. That’s their right, to believe whatever they wish to, it is not their right, to outlaw, prosecute, and stop by law, an act that doesn’t harm a person, nor harm another’s property.

Actually, I first saw the definition of “redneck” on the History Channel. I don’t use wikipedia. Ever. You must though. Nice try.
One reason there are so many unwanted animals and so many puppy mill breeders is that people let the purchase price of an animal make the decision for them. The purchase price of an animal is a drop in the bucket compared to care expenses, including food & regular vet visits, over the life of the animal.
A little over a year ago I bred my first litter of GSP pups. One potential buyer asked repeated if I would come down on my price and couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t because she only wanted her dog as a pet, she wasn’t going to show it or anything. All the puppies (whether they went to pet, show or performance homes) sold for the same price and I can tell you that between the cost of all the genetic testing I did before hand, stud fee, vet care, food bills, electric bills for the endless loads of laundry, etc. while I had those puppies for 10 weeks prior to them going to their new homes I didn’t even come close to breaking even.
My poodle came from a single breeder who only has a litter once a year. She does it for the love of the breed not the love of money. Why would I pay $400 for a dog with no papers and no history? And some of us don’t want to pay the huge salaries of some of the government run shelters. I pay enough taxes already.
