I would have to agree with you. Having BC’s for 17 years and living in a ranching area they are numerous and common, Ive been around more than I can count.
They are people pleasers and will hang out but the happiest BC’s I’ve ever seen are the ones that work and or play hard. A BC that’s happy at someones feet for days at a time is not the typical BC. They thrive best on activity....just from what I have witnessed.

Cairns are so great. I love our 9 year old boy.
My husband has owned Weimaraners, Dalmations, Labs, Irish Setters, Dobermans, Springer Spaniels, and Cocker Spaniels. But our Cairn Terrier is, hands down, the best dog of the batch. Our Cairn was nosed by two large greyhounds at the vet’s office and the receptionist cautioned the owners of the greyhounds to back off. She said, “Better be careful; that’s a terrier.”
He lives to love us. And he loves us in a big way. My husband wants to clone him.
YVW.. Not only are her dogs beautiful.. her pictures remind me of how Beautiful the English country and seaside are.

When I was a kid, we had a border collie that needed a lot of exercise. If he didn't get enough, he would go off to a neighboring ranch, round up a group of cattle, and pen them in a fenced corner. He'd keep them there until he got bored, then come home.
That was her first picture. I sent a picture of her to my closest friend asking what breed she might be. (He thought maybe American Bulldog. She’s actually an AmStaff). She was just looking at first, but smiled like that right when we took out the camera phone. Perfect little pose and everything.
Well, that’s an interesting story as to how Molly Rose became your dog. I wonder where she came from.
Some dogs just have “it”. :)

“When I was a child, my grandfather had a border collie that could get the cows by itself. Sent but not supervised.
More recently, I have driven across the Navajo reservation at Monument Valley and out in the middle of nowhere seen two border collies moving a herd of sheep along the road. (they were totally in charge - no people involved at all.)
No barking or running that I observed just a slow steady pace. The dogs did, however, look disgusted even pissed as though there might have been earlier chastisement of some sort for the 18 thousandth time on the same flock of sheep taking the same routine trip. :-)
Two of the dogs immediately went to daughter's friend's house, but she has since given them away.
My daughter showed her a picture. She said it was definitely the same dog and that she accidentally been burned as a puppy. Which explains why she freaks out when we use a lighter. Poor puppy. (especially since she has a little break in her tail. I can't imagine what her life was like. she doesn't even try to leave here)
When we got her she had sunburn on her face and I am so glad she just wandered into our yard, since going any further north would have put her in the middle of a major street. Our other dog was killed on that street, which is why we let her into our home and didn't just let her keep running around when we were hoping to find her previous owners.
She is so smart and silly. Even when she steals food, she will do so in a way that she only gets the piece she wants . After all, she's part of the family. She can't figure why everyone else gets a slice of pizza and she doesn't.
The funniest part is for the first month or two, every Saturday morning when my husband would sleep in, he would cover his head up when he heard her, because she would come bounding in and jump on him to say a happy doggy, “Good morning!”
I've only read her beautiful gardening book, but seem to remember the Corgis being mentioned there. Quite a character.
