You know, a stutter can be managed.... ;-)
Thanks, pp, I remember that well.
Classy.
I also remember Tyler Hamilton riding around in 2003 reminding the leaders not to attack on Alpe D’Huez (after Lance had fallen because of someones lunchbag)
Add this to the mix of discussion
From Velo News
” Schleck: “Contador is one that I waited in Spa and this is a great brand of fairplay. Chapeau! Today, the story was different” “
Also from Wikipedia on the use of Chapeau
“Chapeau! is often used as a generic expression of approval and appreciation in France and other parts of Europe : as a sign of admiration or respect, one shall indeed remove his hat “
Andy shows Class to me Alberto lost it..............
“To me it seems that Contador has simply either not been counseled on what makes a champion, or decided not to listen. Everyone remembers when Lance waited for Ullrich, and when the same courtesy was applied when LA caught that musette. And what do we remember right now for Contador? In 2009 flicking Lance on Andorra Arcalis, dropping Klöden, and so far catching and passing Vino and now taking advantage of Schleck. These are facts, not opinions, and as an old data analyst Id say theres a trend ”
From Chris Brewer on the LiveStrong site.
Strangely, Liggett didn't really go into why he thought that Contador didn't do anything wrong.
'course, we all hate the briggafrackin' mofo (AC) anyway, who needs more reason? lol
Paul mentioned this during the broadcast today. Did you hear him talking about it? He was discussing the Casartelli crash and said that he was the PR director for the team at the time. It is amazing that I have never heard of most of the guys who were on the team. Some stuck around, of course, like Axel Merckx but most of those names are new to me.
Watching it I will say it is a little unfair to put all the blame on AC. Sanchez and Menchov weren’t angels either. Would they have probably slowed had he yelled at them, yes, but they were driving things as much as him it looked like.
With that said, even if they had not, as well as AS was climbing, him and AC taking turns probably would have still caught them. I think there is that much of a difference between the top 2 and everyone else.
I had either read or heard an announcer say early this AM that Lance was the only rider in this year's Tour who was riding the '95 Tour when Casartelli died, but buddy thought that Hincapie might have been there. George was on Moto then, but apparently was not tapped for the Tour. His own site confirms that his first Tour was '96.
BTW, who is Sean? He was mentioned several times between 650-700...
He talked about the accident for a little while. They showed a group of fans at the memorial and he discussed what happened. He said that Casartelli didn’t even go off the road, he just went down on a corner and hit his head on the pavement. I know they talk about it whenever the Tour rides this section but it’s very sad to lose a guy at 25 under those circumstances. I guess it hit Lance very hard. (he has stayed in touch with the family from what I understand)
Sorry, Sean Kelly, announcer on Eurosport channel.
I agree, MB, and w/ the other points you noted. AC had riders #3 & 4 right there, and... AS started the attack. What do you do, do the classy thing hoping that Samuel and Denis don't take off? They're 'only' 2+ minutes back, right, leaders of their own teams, and in one helluva battle for that last podium position.
A lot of this is just people, incl myself, wishing AC was a better patron instead of an obvious prick. ;>)
I don’t think there is any question that had AC indicated to Menchov and Sanchez that they would all wait for AS, they would have waited. Cancellara was able to hold up the entire peloton after Stage 2 with no problem. There is generally respect among riders. I think Chris Brewer’s comments on the livestrong page are quite telling- there is a trend here...
PS the only time I have not seen a rider wait for his competitor was when that rider was far off in the distance on a break away a la Vinokourov the day Beloki went down in the hot tarmac and Lance went Moto- cross.
Otherwise, they have always waited. Except for AC.

Click the 'To' option to go to the start of the Stage 16 posts.
The Stage starts at 11:40 local time CEST (6 hrs ahead of US EDT).
velonews.com - "At nearly 200km, Stage 16 promises to be one of the toughest of this years Tour. It crosses all four of the most famous passes in the Pyrénées the Cat. 1 Peyresourde and Aspin, and the hors category Tourmalet and Aubisque and includes 15,000 feet of actual climbing.
Adding to the historical importance of the stage is this being the 100th anniversary of the Tour first crossing these four peaks. The last time a Tour stage ran from Luchon to Pau, in 1964, Federico Bahamontes went solo over the Aubisque and came into Pau with a two-minute lead over a 13-man chase group."
FReepmail me to get on or off the 2010 TdF Ping List.
Since Andy is starting today in the white jersey, did they give AC the Maillot noir? I think it would be much more fitting than jaune, although he was cowardly.
well, it looks like Lance is going to go for the stage win today as I speculated. he attacked right out of the start today and is now leading a group that is currently 3:44 ahead of the peleton after 70 KM.
If Lance can keep this group peddling hard all day, I can see him attacking again on Tourmalet or more likly Aubisque and try to lock the stage up with a long solo ride down to the finish.
Since he is not a GC threat, I can see Contador, Schleck and company letting him go and have his day in the sun.
