The Brevity Of Life June 19, 2010
On October 19, 2008, I heard the news that Levi Stubbs, lead singer for Motowns vocal group The Four Tops, had died at age 72. As a boy, I enjoyed the Four Tops, especially Stubbs emotion-filled, passionate voice. I had never met him or heard the group in concert, yet his passing affected me at an unexpected level.
Behind my sadness, I think, was the reminder that I too am getting older. The death of someone I listened to when I was young reminded me that time isnt marching onits running out!
In the only psalm attributed to Moses, he wrote, The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away (90:10). Those arent words we want to hear. We want to remain forever young, but Scripture reminds us that the years pass and death will one day arrive.
That leaves us to wrestle with two essential questions: Am I ready to fly away at lifes end, having trusted Christ as my Savior? And am I using my fleeting days to please the One who loves me eternally?
How are you doingno matter what your agewith the challenges raised by the brevity of life?
Our vigor is fleeting, our best years are brief,
Our youth passes quicklytimes ever a thief;
But hope yet becomes usdeaths sting holds no power;
We have a Redeemeran unfailing Tower. Gustafson
You cant control the length of your life, but you can control its depth.
Read: Psalm 90
The days of our lives are seventy years; . . . yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Psalm 90:10

HAPPY CATURDAY TO AMYS PLACE!
THE RUM TUM TUGGER
THE RUM TUM TUGGER is a Curious Cat: If you offer him pheasant he would rather have grouse. If you put him in a house he would much prefer a flat, If you put him in a flat then he'd rather have a house. If you set him on a mouse then he only wants a rat, If you set him on a rat then he'd rather chase a mouse. Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat-- And there isn't any call for me to shout it: For he will do As he do do And there's no doing anything about it!
The Rum Tum Tugger is a terrible bore: When you let him in, then he wants to be out; He's always on the wrong side of every door, And as soon as he's at home, then he'd like to get about. He likes to lie in the bureau drawer, But he makes such a fuss if he can't get out.
Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat-- And there isn't any use for you to doubt it: For he will do As he do do And there's no doing anything about it!
The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious beast: His disobliging ways are a matter of habit. If you offer him fish then he always wants a feast; When there isn't any fish then he won't eat rabbit. If you offer him cream then he sniffs and sneers, For he only likes what he finds for himself;
So you'll catch him in it right up to the ears, If you put it away on the larder shelf. The Rum Tum Tugger is artful and knowing, The Rum Tum Tugger doesn't care for a cuddle; But he'll leap on your lap in the middle of your sewing, For there's nothing he enjoys like a horrible muddle. Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat-- And there isn't any need for me to spout it: For he will do As he do do And there's no doing anything about it!

Some things never seem to change ... IE. man's idea that he knows best and is in control of his life and his destiny.
In this era of the New Age religions, Humanism, evolution, (unproved), and false teaching, etc.: it takes greater faith to believe there is no God;than to believe in random happenings. There are millions living a secular life in America.
“God is not mocked.”
____________________________________________________
“By inspiration the apostle Paul uses this axiom of agriculture to teach an enduring lesson in Galatians 6:7: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Just as surely as the farmer plants one kind of seed in the spring and harvests the same same type of fruit in the summer, so shall man gather what he has sown.
“Be not deceived. . . .” Here Paul warns that we should not be misled. Usually we think of others leading us astray, but the idea here is that we may delude ourselves. The most convincing lie may not be the one the false teacher tells us but, rather, the one we tell ourselves. Unless we are careful, we can be trapped by our own wrong thinking.”
__________________________________________________________
Galatians 6:9 says,
“Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” It doesn't mean, of course, that you can never stop one job and start another.
If you ask what the well-doing is that we must not tire of, probably the fruit of the Spirit in Gal.
5:22f is the best answer: don't weary of being patient and kind and good and faithful and gentle and self-controlled. Don't weary of manifesting your peace and joy in all kinds of acts of love to your neighbors and associates and family. In short, don't lose heart in spending yourself through love, because if you do, the works of the flesh take over and Paul says
in 5:21, “Those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom.” Or, as Paul says in 6:8,
if you stop sowing to the Spirit and sow to your own flesh, you will not reap eternal life, but eternal corruption.” message from John Piper.

Think on these things,
Philippians 4:8
“ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
__________________________________________________________
Father, help us through the Holy Spirit to know Your Word. Help us to walk in Your light, and be pleasing to You, forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us, in Jesus name, amen.
