Uh, no. They’re confusing correlation and causality.

Rich people tend to be skinny not because they have the genes for slenderness but because they apply the same self-discipline to their waistlines that they do to their careers. Skinny people are presented with just as much, if not more, tempting food as poor, obese people, but they say no, or just have a little taste. Then they go hiking, biking, running, riding, playing tennis, swimming, or working out.

You can eat in a perfectly healthy way on a modest income. All that crap food poor people eat—the packaged stuff—is actually far more expensive than fruits, vegetables, meat, and decent poultry. And whether you’re poor or not, no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to put another pile of potatoes on your plate.

Aha! You hit it! People with more money can afford the gym.

So true.

I’ve noticed in Trader Joe’s that there are very few obese folks shopping there. Many, many more obese folks shopping at Walmart.

Also, Trader Joe shoppers tend to return their shopping carts.

Haven't you heard? Healthy eating is a communist plot, and skinny people who excercise are all liberals. Obesity represents is a triumph of free market economics.

UNDERWEAR GOES INSIDE THE PANTS.

“Americans, let’s face it: We’ve been a spoiled country for a long time.
Do you know what the number one health risk in America is?
Obesity. They say we’re in the middle of an obesity epidemic.
An epidemic like it is polio. Like we’ll be telling our grand kids about it one day.
The Great Obesity Epidemic of 2004.
“How’d you get through it grandpa?”
“Oh, it was horrible Johnny, there was cheesecake and pork chops everywhere.”

&&&
Exactly. Packaged, processed foods are not cheaper.

I would have agreed with you, had my children not done a homeschool project on this same subject a couple of years ago. The ugly truth was that one large red delicious apple was more expensive than a Totino’s frozen pizza. We eat healthy at our house with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and it’s not cheap. We could save a bundle with boxed foods full of starch, fat and sodium.
