CUPERTINO, California, May 18, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computers, says his company will not be a party to the pornography industry and hopes that the iPad and iPhone revolution will help lead to a porn-free world.
Jobs reiterated his position in a heated e-mail exchange with Ryan Tate, a writer for Gawker.com, which follows news and gossip in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Tate, who admitted that he was home alone and slightly inebriated at the time, took issue with a television ad calling the iPad a revolution and fired off an e-mail to Jobs.
If Dylan [American songwriter Bob Dylan is one of Jobs favorite musicians] was 20 today, how would he feel about your company? Would he think the iPad had the faintest thing to do with revolution? Revolutions are about freedom, Tate wrote, not expecting a response from Jobs.
However, Jobs did respond to Tate, triggering an e-mail duel. Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom, responded Jobs. The times they are a changin, and some traditional PC folks feel like their world is slipping away. It is.
However, Tate accused Jobs of "imposing" his "morality" by having Apple forbid pornographic applications for iPad. I dont want freedom from porn. Porn is just fine! And I think my wife would agree, fired back Tate - who later said he regretted mentioning his wife.
Jobs shot back, You might care more about porn when you have kids.

If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
You are aware that the Apple Mac is one of the four fully licensed and fully compliant UNIX platforms? Further, are you aware that the Apple Mac can run ALL Windows 95, 98, XP, ME, 2000, MS-DOS, LINUX, UNIX, and Mac OS X software simulataneously????
I believe Apple will lose their market if the country tightens its belt further. Already Apple has to limit itself to people with disposable income, people who can afford to buy a $500 gadget that they don't really need, people who then will be nickel-and-dimed for primitive software that often doesn't do anything useful.
Were you further aware that during this "belt tightening period" that Apple was the only computer company that CONSISTENTLY gained market share AND increased its profits in its computer sales????
But happy owners of iPads, after they go through the honeymoon, will discover that iPad software is not free.
Are you further aware that the majority of iPhone and iPad software is FREE???
Apple will be OK as long as there are people with cash to burn and with desire to own fashionable stuff. But if you need performance, versatility or low cost, look elsewhere.
Finally, Apple computers have consistently been shown to have a lower TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP than Windows PCs on independent surveys over the life of the machines... repeatedly. It's amazing how much you got wrong...
Ipad...no thanks. I have a great laptop, a Kindle and lots of saved money in my pocket. Apple likes to control and dictate. I like to build and pirate and create my own hardware.
Screw apple, I can do it for half the price, without looking smug.
Do you watch videos of your kids in Flash????
Huh?
Peripherals =
Software:
Macs are more expensive up front, that's true. But everything else you're pulling out of your @ss.
So says the organ harvester.
Now you are just hoping... Check NewEgg and compare prices for MAC peripherals vs PC and get back to me...
No I do agree that computer aware people will buy PC devices and place them into their MAC’s, but that does not count - they are PC savey anyway...
iPhones are already being used in combat...
PC devices ARE Mac devices. Devices are devices, so long as the driver is built-in (which 99% of the time is the case).
The whole idea behind Apple stores is that you will only buy Apple devices... Now just why whould one of your Apple customers go out and buy a generic device and place it into an Apple system - won’t happen. They will only buy overly expensive Apple devices... my point...
That makes no sense at all. A USB drive is a USB drive. Dittos for Firewire. Yeah, most of us Mac users are PC savvy because we left PCs to go to Mac.
Ture, but almost ALL of Apple’s customers think different - that is the whole sales method! They will only buy Apple add-ons, after all, who would trust another manufacturer.?
Sorry, most Apple customers are NOT computer aware... They buy Apple products - otherwise why bother. You are just ignoring the obvious...
The Apple store explicitly highlights companies that pay a lot of money to get their products placed there. Items are typically full-retail, as for some reason, shoppers don't mind paying that when someone shows how peripherals all work together with the computer, and will provide technical support right there at the store (the Genius Bar).
How is it NOT his call whether he sells pornographic content or apps in HIS store??????
That is all this is about... the iPad and iPhone are still perfectly capable of navigating to any pornographic site. . . that doesn't use FLASH to display its content. FLASH won't work because Adobe Flash doesn't work with touch screen technology.
I give up... You are simply an Apple enthusiast without any idea what you are talking about.
Now actually, you sound like an ex-PC fellow that built your own computers and found out early on that even the standard PC peripherals would work with your Apple system. That’s okay, but please don’t confuse your ideas with those of the normal Apple buyers. They are usually non-computer types that stick to a brand name. That does mean that they spend several thousand dollars for a system that is not exactly up to date - but they feel good afterward...
I know that the kernel is *BSD, and I'm sure this is great, however only a few geeks know what it means. Besides, everything above the POSIX layer - and that is probably 90% of the code - is Apple's own.
Further, are you aware that the Apple Mac can run ALL Windows 95, 98, XP, ME, 2000, MS-DOS, LINUX, UNIX, and Mac OS X software simulataneously?
Just like any Windows or Linux box that can run all of the above, in VMware or any other virtualization layer. But the important fact is that Windows *doesn't need* this function, whereas on a Mac you must have it to run industry-standard software.
during this "belt tightening period" that Apple was the only computer company that CONSISTENTLY gained market share
Yes, by releasing and advertising personal products. They made zero inroads into business market, where most of computer sales are. I haven't seen a single Apple box in large companies for a decade.
Are you further aware that the majority of iPhone and iPad software is FREE?
Apple's software store is available only to iPhone users. I have to depend on what reviewers say. There are no statistics on prices, as far as Google knows.
Apple computers have consistently been shown to have a lower TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP than Windows PCs
Then I don't understand why every single corporation doesn't run entirely on Macs... they'd be fools to miss such a great deal :-)
One minor correction: Apple does sell routers, and routers with network hard drives in them. And regarding router setup, they have a nifty wizard that helps in that regard - it helps people get online and going with backup right off the bat. But they explicitly sell 3rd party external hard drives as well for both storage and backup.
No, I fear you are. I AM an Apple customer. I think I know what I buy. Most Apple customers I know get the main product (the computer) from Apple, but look at all choices for peripherals.
