LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Remember that old song, "How much is that doggie in the window?" For most Americans, it seems it's no sale. More than half of people in an Associated Press-Petside.com poll said they would get their next dog or cat from a shelter, nearly seven times the number who said they would buy their next pet from a store....

This is misleading. Is Petsmart a store? Because only rescues use Petsmart to adopt out there animals....
Yes, Petsmart only uses rescue organizations to adopt out their animals. I work with a local cat rescue and we use Petsmart.
LOL.
Four of my five cats "showed up" at the back door and the one who didn't was a kitten of one (now long passed) who did.
And prior to this little platoon was an army of others who picked me out of a line-up.
Same here... :) I have 8 of my fosters/babies in there right now..
I adopted my precious little Penny from Petsmart. They had just gotten her from the LAST CHANCE ANIMAL SHELTER (real name!). She had just come into the adoption center of the store and was in a cage in the back of the room. There wasn’t even a card on her cage yet.I had just lost Boog,my big gray male cat and companion of 16 years,to kidney failure about 3 days earlier and had no plans to get another cat right away, although I didn’t want our other cat Rusty to be alone. But something kept pushing me to go to PetSmart after work. I’d never been to their adoption center before, but the nagging voice in my head kept telling me to go-so I did. I was playing around and talking to the other kitties in the cages when I heard a little meow.Turning around,I saw this little striped paw sticking out from that unmarked last cage in the back,as if to say “come on! i’ve been waiting for you!” That was 3 years ago and Penny the fat little black and brown tabby is the light of our lives.Rusty tries to bully her sometimes but she’ll have none of it!! LOL She is more formally known as “Princess Penny Too-Fat”,and knows her role well.I know that it was Boog speaking to me and telling me to go there, and that there was another little baby that needed our love and a good home.
My profile tells how I get dogs by wishing, it seems. LOL!
I live in Nashville, so I’ve been rescuing flood victim kitties all week. I started out with 2 fosters and now I have 12!!! All but 2 are at my house. They are still kittens and not old enough to be fixed yet. I think I’ve gotten a little over my head with all the fosters, but it is so rewarding to save these precious little kitties.
I’m so glad you listened to that voice in your head and adopted a new friend!!! I can’t imagine life without my pets!
I want all of them!!
How many people know that Dalmatians are often deaf, and not just “unresponsive,” or “Stupid?”
I’d take one in a heartbeat, deaf or not.
*snif*
How sad is it to try and choose “just one?”
We know all about being picked out.
We had two male house cats and then one dark, cold evening, along came a young female to our door. I had prior to that put my foot down and refused to even talk about a female cat.
She was thin, had ear mites and a tail injury. She was starving. although she had managed to find herself enough to stay alive. So, to make a long story short, she wormed her way into our hearts, got bagged and taken to the vet and now owns us. Her name is Girl Cat. I think God must have loved that cat, because she won the Cat Lottery big time.
*snif* I should never read these threads. I don’t have enough physical room to take all the ones I want. :o[
*Awwwww*

Fangs, Joe!
(ohno) *thunk*
