No, I didn’t use a mask but maybe I should have. At least I didn’t have any sneezing spells though.

I continue to say “the Lord has taken care of this Earth forever and I still trust Him”....and I sure don’t trust Al Gore! All he’s trying to do is make a pile of money, which I understand he already has!

This was a great article. By the way, I tried a couple of those light bulbs and absolutely hated them!

I feel the same way as you do, WVNan! When I saw that graphic, it was over 800,000 bytes, and not ‘jpg’, but “bit” - and I had a hard time figuring out how to reduce the size - http://shrinkpictures.com won’t reduce ‘bits’.

The Ol’ General Store - where they had dill pickles in a barrel, big as your arm, for a nickle; where you could pick out any candy you wanted for a penny; and buy a loaf of bread to trot home with for a dime. Coke came in ice cold bottles, in the chest type cooler, and cost a nickle. And, if you wanted a new dress, mom would make it out of the material from the flour bags. (And, if you didn’t have the dime to pay for your purchase, Grandpa Tom would ‘put it on your tab’ for “NEXT TIME”.)

Ah, those were the good old days, weren’t they?

I want Al to spend a winter in Wisconsin. See how 20 below feels to him. When we get a blizzard I want to push him into a snowbank. Not that I harbor any ill will towards Algore.

As I have posted many times before, those flourescent bulbs give me an instant headache, and the whites of my eyes turn red, as soon as I’m in a room with them. (I’ve been buying the regular bulbs, every time I get the chance, and have a closet full of them, now.)

"I have another "dad" poem that you wrote that I will probably use this year, if you don't mind."

I don't mind. Don't forget to ping me.

I don't know what anyone has on file in regard to my poems, and even my files are disorganized. Also, I have not been writing much in the way of poetry. I tend to get bound up in trying to craft stories, and I find that does not come easily.

But every once in a while a phrase or notion sticks in my head and I have to wrest it out in the form of yet another wretched piece of verse. It's like having something stuck in your teeth, you know?

And similarly, the offending morsel is probably not fit for public viewing. However, our heritage is such that we like to share, even when we shouldn't.

Well, I may have fair confidence that you haven't seen this one. I don't think I released it anywhere.

But you may have at it. Perhaps you can explain it to me.

Childhood's End

We have lost our fur, our fangs, and our claws.
Instead of Mother Nature red, we shelter in our laws.
Like sunless insects in our hive, we cannot stand alone,
And this devolving path we tread is one we've made our own.

Childhood lingers longer now. Adults must strain to follow,
The timing lengthens more each turn, our bones must grow more hollow.
We curse our pets with just this fate; we breed them to live longer.
And shed their weapons with a smile. We do not need them stronger.

A puppy or a kitten now; we soon will freeze them true,
In timeless innocence and trust to last their whole lives through.
And as we watch this process grow, we shed another worry,
That He who guides us on this path has not been in a hurry.

There'll come a time when childhood brings a thousand years to share,
While cheerful song and innocence will be our clothes to wear.
And shame and pain and tearfulness will go the way of fangs,
For Him who taught us how to sing without remembered pangs.

Maybe it’s not the monitor - but the computer?

"Maybe it’s not the monitor - but the computer?"

Remotely possible, but unlikely.

My recommendation? Get a new TV, with a digital tuner, and a computer monitor input.

The small ones are not expensive, and have better resolution than dedicated monitors of only a few years ago.

(One point; with a TV/monitor, when you turn on your computer, you also have to turn on the TV/monitor.)

Your hubby has a wonderful dream. Hopefully it will be fulfilled one day!

His dream renewed my dream.........

My dream (if I had lots of money) would be to live on a little hill with beautiful trees, lots of weeping willows, and a stone path leading down to my own dock - and little boat waiting, on the small lake - stocked with fishing gear, ready to go.

The grounds would be lush grass, surrounded by the most beautiful flower beds. There would be several picnic tables, where one could sit, and string beans, peel apples, or pit cherries and chat with neighbors. On Sunday, those tables would be filled with big plates of fried chicken, bowls of potato salad, pots of baked beans, and homemade apple pies - with places to sit for all friends and loved ones.

The house would be relatively small, but with a porch surrounding the entire residence. Lots of swings and rockers and gliders, to overlook the lake, while dreaming of the yesteryears, and reliving sweet memories of days gone by.

It would have bird houses, bird feeders and bird baths, everywhere. The birds would be singing all day, the crickets would be chirping at dusk, and the lightening bugs would sparkle in the darkness - as the moon would graciously leave it’s silver streak on the water.

I can picture it plain as day - I used to think it was Branson, or nearby, in MO. But, (sigh) as the years are now quickly passing, I realize my dream will never come true - but hey! Dreamin’s fun - ain’t it?

Now - tell us YOUR dream ‘wish’. PRETTY PLEASE????
