Sonnet XIX: When I Consider How my Light is Spent
When I consider how my light is spent Ere half my days in this dark world and wide, And that one talent which is death to hide Lodg'd with me useless, though my soul more bent To serve therewith my Maker, and present My true account, lest he returning chide, "Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?" I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent That murmur, soon replies: "God doth not need Either man's work or his own gifts: who best Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state Is kingly; thousands at his bidding speed And post o'er land and ocean without rest: They also serve who only stand and wait."
John Milton

Your roses are breathtaking, Conor!
I love them and am just getting started on making a garden of them.
They are sometimes hard to get to thrive in our extreme heat.

Thanks very much, Luv! I wish you success with your rose garden - English Shrub Roses like Graham Thomas do quite well in the heat as long as you give them enough water. Look for anything hybridized by David Austin.

Thank you for the tips! I will let hubby know about David Austin.
He’s a newly-minted Master Gardener and is learning new
things all the time in this art.

You're more than welcome, Luv - The David Austin roses were hybridized from Old Garden Roses and modern Hybrid Teas - they have good bloom form, fragrance and disease reistance - he will not release a rose that is not fragrant - highly superior to the Hybrid teas which have almost no rose fragrance and require constant spraying. I grow Old Garden Roses and David Austin roses - I don't spray and they do quite well.

They are absolutely beautiful, Conor - I would love to plant more roses here - critters ate my last ones.
