WASHINGTON – Five states — New York, California, Texas, Arizona and Florida — are perilously close to losing out on congressional seats because of lackluster participation in the U.S. census.

The five were average or below average in mailing back 10-question census forms when compared to other states, trailing by as many as 5 percentage points, according to the final census mail-in tally released Wednesday.

I never got a census form ... should I be worried?

Hmmm, worried? I doubt it.

When I'm home, I don't answer the door bell. I answer the cell if I know who it is. Starting from this date, I will start answering the door with Mr 12ga in my hands.........food for thought.

Well, isn’t that what happens when all those false addresses receive forms that aren’t mailed back? Naw...

RINO McCain only carried AZ and TX, while the socialist carried the others. I don’t mind seeing the others lose seats.

I've been left as you were,, we're a small rural community i'd say at lest 30% didn't get a form.

Lets try this again.

“I don’t mind seeing the others lose seats.”

Then you’re an idiot to give up big states to the commie.

Or perhaps I'd rather see more seats in the states we hold. I don't mind challenging in the other states, but I'd rather have NY and CA worth less, since our record there is not good. BTW, this year, we've got a good chance of sweeping more seats than anyone would have imagined, even in "safe" districts. I'm praying (and donating) for that to happen.

Ummmm... I don't know... but that definitely doesn't sound like good news for Texas. I don't know about the other states.

That's not such a good idea for conservatives to be against sending in the Census stuff, when they end up hampering their own voting power ... by doing so... if that's what is happening.

You were saying ...

More like illegals are scared to mail it in.

I was reading here (from posters) where a lot of conservatives are not sending theirs in... so I'm not sure about that...

So you’re giving up on the states with the most votes? not a winning strategy

You: So you’re giving up on the states with the most votes? not a winning strategy

We're not communicating well. We have a good chance of taking more seats in the big states, and trying to do so is a winning strategy, However, I don't mind if those states where we are historically least likely to win are worth less because their illegals and felons are afraid to respond to the census. That's not giving up, just appreciating karma. I'm donating (generously) to quite a few individual races in the big states, which is very far from giving up!

Florida has had a Republican Gov for the last decade, yes Crist is a RINO but he was the GOP candidate.

Florida is a very conservative state with strong support for things like gun rights and low taxes.

Florida has the 4th most congressional seats (25).

And you don’t mind if Florida goes democrat? I’m guessing you work with Powell on the RNC board.

I don't know how I'm failing to communicate, but I'm not getting my position across. The fact is that FL is a swing state. I'd rather have a reliably patriotic state pick up those seats and FL lose one or two than have an accurate count of illegals in FL that gives them the extra seats.

Imagine that the NBA was considering upping regular shots to 3 points and today's 3-pointers to 6 points, with free throws still at 1 point. Shaquille O'Neal would be thrilled because that downplays his weakness and shifts more points to where he is stronger, which is a very different perspective from watching Shaq cheer for the change and concluding that he's given up on improving his dismal performance. In Florida, we shoot about like Shaq does for free throws, and I'd rather shift more seats to areas of the game where we shoot much better.
