Nearly half a century ago, we sent men to the moon because we had to stop the world from thinking that the Soviet Union, having put a man in orbit, had surpassed the United States in science and technology. When Americans walked on the moon, we were back in first place, with the Russians keeping the lead in ballet, caviar and vodka. So we halted continued moon landings.

Humans on earth.......if Al Gore allows it.
Mars is a lifeless rock. It has no value at all. God “created the heavens and the Earth” . Not the “Heavens and Mars” for his likeness to occupy and have dominion. We have no money to blow looking for water on this red hot planet (240 degrees F). What we need to do is close our borders and stop printing money.
Damn, you should have stopped before hitting the post button.
LOL
Whatever luddite..
By the way we could bring it to life..
Red hot planet? It does not get anywhere near 240° F on Mars. Also, it does just so happen to have water.
Yeah, but it would probably take about 1000 years.
But God didn’t create it so it apparently doesn’t exist anyway. LOL
So????
How can it be real Mars is not in the Bible!!!
Neither are you.
So I’ll make sure my future generations go to space...
The smart way for humans to go to Mars is for there to be accommodations waiting for them when they arrive. Literally.
The way to do this is to send robots first to prep for our arrival. By this I mean a nuclear powered horizontal tunneling robot, that will mine, reinforce and seal a very spacious tunnel for the astronauts to live inside.
After first doing the same on the Moon, to make a permanent underground Lunar base.
Such a robot doesn’t have to be fast, just thorough, and their lander can be cannibalized for things like pressure doors, ceiling, walls and flooring.
But the advantage to doing it this way is that a lot more supplies and equipment can be brought with, and what is done there can be cumulative, not just a brief one shot. The robots can spend years preparing for the humans to arrive.
And even better, the nuclear reactor that powers the robots will be ready and waiting to provide the astronauts with all the energy they need.
Good luck with that.
I know mars has lava tubes so those might not be a bad place to get started setting up shop. Your bots could probably tunnel into canyon walls as well.
Also put some asteroids on the planet (well small ones)..
