lol....
Yep, as part of a TEAM with a variety of weapons, an AK is great. Out to about 250 yards max.
But I sure would not choose it to carry if I was alone, especially in open country.
In Afghanistan, of the available off the rack troopie long arms, I’d take a USMC M-16A3 with the 4X ACOG sight. Effective range 600+ yards.
“Barrel design.”
How?
without a doubt, if you are shooting at a distance, the M-16 is the more accurate rifle.
In terms of stopping power at across the street distances, the 7.62x39 wins the race.
this bullpup is yet to be a proven design.
When I fire a round, the whole world goes silent...............mostly because I can't hear a thing over the ringing in my ears. Double hearing protection is a must with a Mosin. I love it though- it's a tool, not a toy.
While trying to shoot from the prone position, my hearing protection kept bumping up against the new stock and every time I cranked off a round, my right ear was uncovered. I'm going to have to re-think that for the next time out and maybe use those foam inserts.
I just have an EOTECH, a BUIS and a laser on mine.
It makes bigger holes than the poodle shooter.
I have to take exception to that. We regularly shoot at 300 and I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. That said, we're shooting at a known distance. Flatter trajectory prevails at longer unknown distances.
That was Bushmaster's stock in trade back before they started doing "me-too" AR's. They've come full circle.
they arent using that kel tec model bullpup..that was in the picture.
Nice FAL. DSA?
What kind of groups do you get at 300 yards with your AK? Iron sights? Original or aftermarket?
Easily spot on correct. Agreed
The AK-17 will fire when caked in sand and not cleaned for a year while the M-16 will jam if not cleaned daily.
Half correct. The AK47 was designed to be used by illiterate peasants who can't read or write. It was designed to be shot in unclean environments and then washed out in the local streams only to go rock-n-roll at a moment's notice.
However the idea that the M16 is persnickety in the maintenance dept is no longer true. I have heard reports coming back from the 'Stan A.O. (Area of Operations) that indicates the M4 era of weapons will go long periods without cleaning and keep on rockin'! The real difference is between accuracy in the M4 and a more robust cartridge in the AK. NOW, take your pick.
Say: Dragunov to Barrett 50, Barrett 96B in .338 Lapua Magnum or the M40A3 used by the USMC (IIRC).
#2 THIS thread needs more gun porn!
I'll say FAL or AR-10.
I would sure love to have one of those FALs. Right now I couldn’t afford to shoot it much.
I did own an FN model 1949 which is pretty much the same thing with a wood stock and without the quick take down. It was in 7mm Mauser and was a nice rifle. I have read that they cost a fortune to manufacture. All milled parts and all steel except for the stock.
