One of the biggest prominences in years erupted from the sun's northwestern limb yesterday. The massive plasma-filled structure rose up and burst during a ~2 hour period around 0900 UT on April 13th. Observers in Europe had a great view:
Updated: The eruption hurled a bright coronal mass ejection (CME, movie) into space. The expanding cloud could deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field around April 15th. NOAA forecasters estimate a 35% chance of polar geomagnetic activity when the CME arrives.

In a related development the IPCC announced the Sun's CME was caused by man-made climate change as documented in a “peer reviewed” paper they found wrapped in a piece of Bazooka Bubble Gum . . . .

One of the biggest prominences in years Since the Sun has been unusually quiet for an extended period, it's also one of the only prominences in years.

I haz stole yer pic!
No problem.
After the 15th, we won't have to worry about it all anyway. If the prominence doesn't kill us, it'll be sure to raise the dead from the graves, and we'll all be battling zombies all afternoon long.

I haven't even unpacked my low band and 6m rigs since moving to Pocatello from San Diego. Even the 2m rig is rarely fired up. I was active on voice related things from 1976 through 1985. At that point, packet radio attracted more attention. I left the "Cantenna" dummy load in San Diego. The DopScan was lent to Phil Lapsley in Berkeley to track down a jammer. I've never seen it again. C'est la vie. New equipment costs a lot more than I want to pay for a hobby that I have little time to enjoy.
