One of the finest comedy movies ever made was the Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles. Its a cult classic thats still aired on TV today. The films dialogue is riddled with racist, sexist, bigoted speech. The N word is used 17 times. Yet, 36 years after the films debut the N word is bleeped whenever its broadcast on television. It isnt because the movie was insensitive to racism in 1974. Quite the opposite. The bigotry is an intentional punch line at the expense of the bigoted. Sensitivity to mere words has neutered an extraordinarily important commentary on race in film.
Mel Brooks, like so many entertainers of his era made his living skewering racial, religious, ethnic, and social mores. Brooks, a Jew, was quite fond of poking fun of his heritage. His movies have lampooned Hitler, Nazis, and the Holocaust. It makes the N word seem like Sesame Street.

RRrrrrrraaagrrrrrrhhh!!!!!
I’ve been saying that for years.
The TV version has had about 30 minutes cut out of it, which makes it alot less funny.
It’s one of the funniest movies ever made.
Thank you, Mr. Brooks!
Sounds pretty uptight, why don’t you let one rip, might make you feel better and you wouldn’t come off sounding like a stick in the mud.
“Where de white wimmin at?”
Brooks still gets criticized for “The Producers”. Personally I think you can laugh at evil without trivializing it.
“And they was right!”
Could there be a more delicious revenge than a Jew making a fortune making fun of Nazis?
My favorite comedy movie of all time. However, there WAS one line that they had to cut out because it was too tasteless. Mel Brooks was interviewed by Playboy and this is in there (look it up). Anyway, where Cleavon Little is with Madeleine Kahn in her room and she says “It’s twue, it’s twue,” well, the line they had to cut out was “Excuse me, miss, but you’re sucking on my arm.”
Before there was DVD there was a format called Laserdisc which, among other things, featured *much* better picture and sound quality than VHS or Beta.Song of the South was released on Laserdisc somewhere in Asia in its original format but in limited quantities. The market for that disc in the Laserdisc "community" was $300 or more...if you could find it.
“...not only was it authentic frontier jibberish-it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age!”
Possibly the funniest movie ever made!
“More beans, Cookie!”
“I think you boys have had enough...”
Classic boy humor!
Colonel, USAFR
Same goes for the movie “Airplane”. The basketball scene and the pedopheliac gay pilot schtick wouldn’t fly today. No pun intended....
Possibly the funniest movie ever made!
The campfire fart scene is among the best.
Mine was Madeline Kahn doing “I’m Tired” in the saloon. She was one funny girl. Saw a month ago and was laughing so hard my wife came into the room to see why. She stayed and watched the rest of the movie.
“The sheriff is a ni—”
[BONG!]
“What did he say?”
“He said the sheriff is a-near!”
Joey, do you like movies about gladiators??
They don’t make movies like blazing saddles anymore. I love all of Mel Brooks work.
