ZOT! Why the constant posts on religion?
None but me

Posted on 02/26/2010 11:53:37 PM PST by knowshon

I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I

I used to recommend FR to my conservative Mormon friends. But the increased attacks and hostility towards anything Mormon has sent them all away.

I know, it’s terrible, eh Spiff? A Mormonism apologist posts a Mormonism thread and the anti-Mormonism posters just burn the board up with quotes directly from LDS source texts and ‘presidents’. Must be just unbearable for ya, bro.

I know several orthodox Jews who used to lurk here quite a bit. After awhile they declared it a Jew-bashing site and only rarely lurk.

Well, tell them that it is only a vocal minority who hate them. As for me, I like Mormons even if I don't agree with their view on God. And, I will always have respect for them and be grateful to them for their help on the Prop 8 stand here in CA. I didn't see other denominations stepping up en masse like they did.

Well, a lot of the LDS posts against Christians have driven some Christians away. And most of the Mormon open threads are news stories posted by LDS owned newspaper or their own sources, how is that hateful?

I believe disagreement is healthy and a person should be able to defend their faith. The LDS believe they are the ‘only true church on the face of the earth’ and that is something that upsets people and should be defended. If they have the truth like they say, then why wouldn’t they defend it? And that is not just to the LDS, that goes for the Catholics, the Evangelicals, the Calvinists and every other religious group here on FR. Not everyone agrees with everyone else on the topic of religion and the LDS certainly do not.

My debating skills have improved greatly here on FR and I have learned a lot. For that I am grateful to the debate here on FR.

If you don’t like the posts on the RF, then don’t read the Religion forum. There is a whole lot more to FR than that one forum.

If Mormons were on FreeRepublic spouting that stuff, I would be equally POed with them.

They do fr, they denegrate the scriptures, they denegrate ex-mormons, they attack Christian denominations. Some dedicate their whole home pages here on FR for that purpose too.

And I am not wrong. Resty and I disagree a lot on the Religion forum yet I still like her and have agreed with her on several news threads.

I love her spunk and it carries over to her News/activism posts.

Now now don’t interfere with a good ignorant rant with something so piddly as the truth...

My church did a lot on the Prop 8 front, but we did not hold press conferences about it.

And disagreement over theology does not equal hate. The only people I hate are libs.

You can truy to pretend away and rationalize the hate all you want, but the evidence is there for all to see.

If it is plain to see, then why not post some links/give some examples? I would be very interested to know what discussions you consider hateful.

Poor Spiff, cannot differentiate Mormon from Mormonism. And using the hate word is almost as dumb as ... oh, never mind, Spiff. You’ve got enough problems being a Romney supporter; no need to burden you further.

What does that mean “private line on God”? Are you talking about prayer, the Word, revelations, what?

I was thinking of those who try to influence others' beliefs in order to gain power over them. As Lucius Annaeus Seneca said, Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. Seneca was reportedly not an atheist, yet he was clearly wise.

Honest question...

Why are so many LDS also Romney supporters? Romney is NOT a conservative so why is a religion that strives so hard to be equated with conservatism so strongly supports a moderate (at best).

There is a difference between religious observances and faith in God (and/or Christ).

Religious trappings and a focus on them can easily be used to control people, as high demand groups (cults to the layman) often show.

But individual faith is different and is not a means of control generally.
