I’d be a Libertarian if it weren’t for all the dope smokin’ at the meetings. ;)

I'm a "peace through superior firepower" libertarian.

Many posters here tend to have their inner statist show sometimes.

I would take most anything over the Obammie Marxist.
Savage was excellent on this today.
He had a great explanation on why Obammie is what he is, as Marxist as one can be, having been born to Marxist, and brought up and mentored by no one, other then radical Marxist.

...libertarians tend to be unrealistically isolationist and don't support the conservative social agenda, but it would seem that we would be natural allies based upon economic policy.

The answer is right there. Life is more important than money.

It's the Libertarian/Libertine component ~ they give you'all a really bad name.

And besides, for real baby killers, if you like that sort of thing, Democrats can't be beat.

I think it's best the Libertarians go scooting after the people who have the most comparable moral standards ~ and that'd be the trashier sort of Leftwingtards quite frankly.

Libertarians are like conscientious objectors in the war over the future of our society.

No free society is viable in the long term without a solid moral foundation. Libertarians do just fine in a conservative free republic founded on Judeo-Christian principles, as America originally was.

However, neither libertarians nor conservatives can survive in the liberals’ intended totalitarian nanny state where the liberals’s degenerate secular religion intrudes into and controls every facet of the life of every family and every individual.

I don’t have anything against Libertarians in general. I just have some major disagreements with many of the extreme elements of the Libertarian Party/Movement. First of all, 9-11 truthers are whackjobs and cannot be tolerated AT ALL. Many of these types support Ron Paul and even though Ron Paul is right about a few things, he’s very wrong on some big issues like his isolationist stances and embracing these kooks.

Libertarians like Stossel, Boortz and Elder don’t bother me at all.

I actually believe in decriminalizing Marijuana... So I find one Social issue in common with many Libertarians there. The Alex Jones Crowd (Many of them Paleo-Cons, I know...) really turn me off. I just can’t stand them. Period. They give Libertarians a bad name and leave me with a bad taste in my mouth every time I have the displeasure of conversing with them.

I wouldn’t say as bad as liberals, but they are different than Conservatives.

There are three pillars to the Conservative platform- Economic, Social, and Defense.

Regarding Economic, yes, there are many agreements and the two parties resemble each other.

Regarding social, Libertarians generally on platform are pro-choice. This is one of those pillar items that Conservatives don’t compromise on. The rights of the individual can’t be superceeded. Some of the 10th Amendment Libertarians don’t seem to get the point of this not being a ‘state’s right’ issue as State’s rights can never trump individual rights (I won’t however, damn those who use the state by state approach as a way to end abortion as some Conservatives do.)

Regarding defense, this is another area where Libertarians and Conservatives part ways. We could have a whole thread on this and I’m preaching to the choir so I won’t repeat it all.

I will throw in that I’ve always seen there being two types of Libertarians, the Bircher types and the Reason types. The latter are far more rational and represent a lot of FReepers. We have our Bircher types but mostly they give Libertarians a bad name.

As Ayn Rand said, Libertarians are “hippies of the right who trade capitalism for anarchy” (paraphrased).

The thing that bugs me is that Libertarians always demand that Conservatives give in some of their values to accept them into the fold or their candidates but they absolutely refuse to give in on any of their positions to be acceptable to Conservatives.

I have encountered a very small number of Libertarians who claim positions (on immigration, abortion) that I find similar to a Conservative position. But the vast majority of Libertarians I have known over the years have been simply Liberals:

Open the borders, no restrictions on abortion, legal prostitution, legal drugs ... and oh, if we have time, maybe we'll see about shrinking the government. But we may be having too much fun to get around to that.

Libertarians can sometimes talk a good game, but I consider them Liberals who do not understand that government needs to play a role in smoothing the rough edges of society. I don't want the government to do a lot, but I also don't want a social free-for-all either.

I was hanging on to the Libertarian party by the skin of my teeth (note my screen name) until the “Libertaitards” nominated Bob Barr for their nominee in the ‘08 election. ANY hope the Libertarian party had died with Barr's nomination. My new love is the Tea Party.

Near as I can tell and in my opinion, Conservatives, at least as too frequently represented on FR, aren’t cohesive and don’t play well with other children.

That affects their ability to deal with other people who think of themselves primarily as Conservatives, let alone those who think of themselves as primarily something else.

I don’t consider Libertarians to be bad. They’re a hell of a lot better than a conservative Democrat. I don’t agree with them 100% but they have a firm grasp on the Constitution and limited government.

How can anybody trust libertarians when their favorite
“son” loads up legislation that he knows will pass and
gives the pork while giggling “I voted against it.”?

I don’t like libertarian philosophy due to:

1. Its social promotion of deviant lifestyles i.e. homosexuality, drug abuse, pornography, prostitution.

2. Its isolationist foreign policy.
