Why isn't Free Republic easier to read on my iPhone and iTouch?
When I click on a thread, the type spreads out and it's so small I cannot read it. Why doesn't it format in a narrower column so the font is larger and readable?
The FreeRepublic web site uses the default font set by your web browser (where other web sites you visit may set the font size in their code). So, you can change the size of the font that you see here on FreeRepublic. On the latest version of Internet Explorer, for example, you click on Tools, Options, then Content to change the default font size.
Do you have access to miniopera browser? Download that, put it on mobile view, and problem is solved.
It is kind of a pain in the @ss. Apple just added a couple of browser options in their app store a few weeks ago. I haven’t tried them out yet, but I’ve heard at least one has some added functionality, beyond what’s in Safari. You might want to give that a try. The app is only a couple bucks.
Works fine with my Motorola Droid... I’m posting from it now.
not on apple ... nowhere else that i know ... i’m sure it would have come up somewhere or seen a link for it on fr
Just checked, unfortunately, no...we should talk to JimRob about this...
It looks okay on a Blackberry Curve using the Opera browser.
There’s a freerepublic on twitter that links to the posts on freerepublic.com. Is this an official twitter?
Oops, I gave you instructions for Firefox. Internet Explorer is click on View then Text Size.
You have a computer, iphone and itouch?
Take the gadgets, line them up on your driveway outside in order of size smallest to biggest. Then take a sledge hammer and smash them to bits. Sweep up all the smashed bits into a pile. Pour gasoline on the pile and light it.
PS: While you’re out there, don’t be alarmed about that warm feeling on the back of your neck. That’s just our friend the sun.
Why won’t Free Republic do my laundry! Why!? Why!? Dammit!
Take two fingers. Place them on the iphone/touch screen. Quickly spread them apart. Voila! The letters are bigger.
Use iFeeder and enter this URL: http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/feed.rss
On my iPhone, when I surf to the Free Republic site, it automatically formats to a narrow column that I can double-touch and read nicely.
But when I touch a thread title to select it, the result is a spread-out wide column that is too little to read. If I zoom in, the font gets bigger, but then the column edges disappear off the left and right side of the screen, making the thread impractical to read.
Anyone have the answer? Seems like this should be easy.
“Take two fingers. Place them on the iphone/touch screen. Quickly spread them apart. Voila! The letters are bigger.”
Yes the letters are bigger but then the column edges disappear outside the left and right boundaries of the screen, so it is impractical to read... you have to “zoom” left and right to read every single sentence in snippets... impractical...
FR is great on my Blackberry Curve. I don’t have a computer.
Try downloading google for your smartphone, blackberry or iphone, and surf freerepublic with that.
Might be worth it...
You could carry a really really large magnifier...
Was even worse on my BlackJack II that I had prior to my iPhone. Something about the code for the page won’t allow rewraping of text. This isn’t an unusual issue - same goes for web sites on small computer screens. Zoom still works - just have to drag the page back and forth as you go across the page.
Also, if you haven’t tried it, turn your iphone sideways and use the browser in landscape mode. Helps some.
