White House to outsource NASA work
Federal News Review ^ | 01/25/10 | Suzanne Kubota

Posted on 01/25/2010 7:22:07 PM PST by KevinDavis

The Wall Street Journal reports that the White House "has decided to begin funding private companies to carry NASA astronauts into space".

The decision comes on the heels of a report to NASA by the Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP).

VADM Joseph W. Dyer, USN (Ret.), the chair of that panel told Federal News Radio, ASAP is both opposed and not opposed to commercial transport. "The answer to that, as is often the case in Washington, is 'it depends,'" said Dyer.

From the outside, I’m good with that too.

The private sector is becoming the primary space explorer as time passes and it will only continue.

NASA ain’t dead, but, any new trip to the Moon or ultimately Mars will have a giant amount of private initiative and money behind it.

Me too. Space exploration is a waste of tax dollars.

Of course, the White House didn't mention that those private companies will be Chinese and maybe Indian. Thanks KD!

I don't understand the meaning of the title of the posted article. It seems to me that NASA has been "funding private companies" since its inception. It's been called contracting.

Exactly so. :’)

Von Braun et al hired companies based not on where they were located, but based on whether they were able to do the job. That’s the real reason Apollo was cancelled.

Sounds like a good idea, but remember, these are Democrats we’re dealing with, and they’re allergic to good ideas. Considering that Obama just gave a no-bids sweetheart contract to a campaign contributor worth $25 million, the first question that comes to my mind is this: how many Obama campaign supporters are supposed to be getting their payola this way? As far as I can tell, that’s the only use that Democrats have for things like outsourcing and other pro-business behaviour - corrupt payoffs to their cronies.

The true reason for this is Obama wants to slow down the US, but in the long run the idiot may get more than he bargained for an expansion of space exploration.

“White House “has decided to begin funding private companies to carry NASA astronauts into space”

No doubt readers will confuse funding private companies with tax cuts, reducing or eliminating regulations, and other incentives for the nascent space companies. While expecting the same results...

Since taxpayers have been funding NASA since it began, now we will be funding companies picked by Hussein. And those companies will be picked by political means. Taxpayers will be sending money directly into private companies whose agenda directly matches Hussein's agenda.

In short, these companys’ existence will be dependent on and directly controlled by Hussein. And another percent of the private sector economy gets swallowed. Not bad place to begin another slush fund.

Oh wait, you are expecting these companies to actually produce results? BAWHAHAHAHA.... etc.
