Detroit (WWJ) -- Detroit's homeless not only have a place to stay, they now also have a place to stay in shape.
The Green Gym opened at the warehouse of the Cass Community Social Services at 12025 Woodrow Wilson. It is the first gym of its kind specifically for homeless clients.
The specially-equipped bikes hooked to a generator will make electricity redirected to the warehouse. One cyclist over an hour's time can create enough juice to power two laptop computers for an hour.

Perhaps they should just make giant hamster wheels for them!
“specially-equipped bikes”
...the only way they’ll get a hobo to ride a bike is to dangle a bottle of “Thunderbird” in front of it.
Perhaps they could do manual labor.
Now this idea has promise. The bikes could provide the electricity to power the HVAC fans to circulate heat. Capture the methane from the sleeping areas and bath house to cook and heat the facility. Set up a duty roster or schedule for the bikes...no bike, no eat./s
I was not aware that gym memberships was a crying need among the homeless.
That’s so bogus. Have the “homeless” ride a bike long enough to cook their supper or heat their room and they would be looking for a real job in a New York minute.
Yep.
“One cyclist over an hour’s time can create enough juice to power two laptop computers for an hour.”
So are they saying the homeless can ride to provide power? Would that be the least efficient way of providing power?
Seriously. The human body is not that efficient that way.
Plus, the amount a human (even an athlete) could produce before exhaustion is trivial; hence the vague claim as to output.
“they now also have a place to stay in shape.”.....
Funny!....to damn funny!.....Just what every homeless person wants....A place to stay and a place to work up a sweat exercising.....Who thinks up this crap?
Since it is a "green" project run by a "community" social services group, however, look for a "ho hum" response from the usual suspects, or possibly even enthusiastic embrace of the concept...
But, this has got to be a violation of somebody's rights, huh...
/s
Actually, this is discrimination!....They are assuming all bums are green....
I wonder if the gym offers boxing?
“New Gym For Homeless Also Creates Electricity”
I saw a movie about that, I think. Matrix or Maalox or something like that.
It sounds more like a social experiment to use homeless as slaves, lol.
You’re right. Make 1kW to eat and 2 kW to spend the night. What? You don’t have any kW. Today’s your lucky day.
