What Are You Reading Now? (My Quarterly Survey)
1/12/10

Posted on 01/12/2010 7:17:29 PM PST by MplsSteve

OK, it's time for my quarterly What Are You Reading Now? survey.

I do this because I like to gauge what Freepers are reading. I believe that the Freeper community are one of the more well-read on the Internet.

What are you reading? It can be anything...a classic novel, a NY Times bestseller, a technical journal, a trashy pulp novel - in short, anything.

Please do not defile this thread by replying "I'm Reading This Thread". It became unfunny a long time ago.

I'll start. I'm reading "Pickett's Charge: A Microstudy" by George R Stewart. It was written in 1959 and is a classic read about the last day of the battle of Gettysburg. It was his only book about the Civil War but he wrote many others.

Well, what are you reading?

The Moon is a Harsh

After I was done with that one I threw it down the "gravity well."

Have you read Jayne's earlier SF romances, Sweet Starfire and Shield's Lady? She wrote them under the name Amanda Glass, and there's a hardback collection of the two.

Not sure. I’ve read a few of his books, but I really am a big fan of J.A.Jance. I’ve read all of her stuff, and, in a chance meeting, influenced her into getting Beau and Joanna together on a case.

I think I saw ‘Sweet Starfire’ today at Walmart. It had a 1986 copyright. If I have read them, I don’t remember them.

"The Rough Riders" by T. Roosevelt.

Free download on itunes via the iphone Kindle App.

Compare and contrast that great man with the communist muzzie son of a whore currently in residence at the White House.

I have read all of her books too.

Just finished some of the Henning Mankell books(Kurt Wallander series) and Stieg Larsson.

Both Swedes, very successful in Europe, and translated into English because of their popularity.

Michael Connelly and Laurence Block (Matt Scudder series) are great also.

Good for you for influencing J.A. Jance. I’m impressed.

So many mysteries,so little time.

I know... no time to read them all.

It was funny, I was walking down the street in Long Beach Washington on a rainy day, and saw that Jance was doing a book signing at the lone book store. I went in and was THE ONLY ONE THERE!!! We talked for at least 15 minutes.

I do a little writing myself, and thoroughly enjoyed my talk with her.

The Holy Bible - NIV translation. And a stack of books about international adoption. There are many good books on international adoption. Good for you. You only read those books if you are jumping in. :-) I've adopted internationally 3 times (latest on this past summer). It is a wonderful experience and a true blessing.

I’ve enjoyed several of Piper’s books. I especially liked Don’t Waste Your Life. I will probably read it again soon.

I really enjoyed Gordon Wood’s Revolutionary Characters. He recently published a new book Empire of Liberty: A History of the Early Republic, which is in my pile to read. He’s a fine historian.
