I’m not sure the totals, but it’s been snowing non-stop since last night. It’s been kind of heavy at times.
My company is saying they are going to lay off between 10-13K people this year. If I get laid off, I’m really thinking of moving out of state. The job market here sucks. The husband of one of my coworkers has been out of work for TWO YEARS. He’s to the point he will take anything. Their daughter is a cocktail waitress on the weekend and he’s been working the door at the place she works just to bring in some money. None of the people who were let go from my company last year have found jobs except for two and this is out of around 30ish people.
Me too.
Ugh
It’s terrible I know. Yet, the state keeps electing liberals. Chicago politics is very destructive and in terms of corruption it rivals NJ and LA.
I consider myself very lucky. I have 2 jobs when several people don’t even have 1. They aren’t the greatest jobs, not what I want to do forever, not the direction I want my life to go in for the long term, but at least I have them. For now, I’m grateful.
I think trying to find a job anywhere at this point will prove difficult.
My dream is to start my own business, but in this climate and with this president and congress, it’s a dream that won’t likely be realized soon. No one is going to give a small business loan to someone like me. I have no assets, no capital, nothing. Best I can hope for is investors and who is going to be willing to do that right now?
It’s all very discouraging and sad.
You didn't miss anything major. They're saving the real tears and drama for tomorrow.
>>I think so, too. But X Factor starts in 2011 and it’s pretty much like AI without the age limits.<<
Ooh, good point :)
Ready to host XF, Jonny? :)
West coast this week — I’ll probably have to catch up on it on the DVR.
I’ll do what I used to do and just sync my scrolling through the thread to what is happening on the show...
:(
Maybe that's their new sponsor. Or Minute Maid. Tropicana? :)
Hello, Di :)
I totally agree with everything you said. I’m grateful to be employed, but this is not something I want to do forever. I keep toying with the idea of going back to school to be a pastry chef, but I don’t know.
I just watched South Park and they had the goth kids reading goth poetry. Today I’m totally the chunky goth girl from South Park. LOL
No. That was a surprise.
The Italian guy’s Hollywood audition was not good.
LOL!
We do what we have to in order to pay the bills. But I think it’s a tragedy of life to not do what you love. If being a pastry chef is your passion, when the time is right you should absolutely do it!
I hope to one day run my own little restaurant. Perhaps a pub, or a sandwich shop. I’ll sell your pastries!!!
I watch that Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives show. I love it. THAT is what I want to do. Have a small business where people come to eat good food at reasonable prices, to feel welcome and at home.
LOL! There was something about him--even without the beatboxing--that made me want to hit him with a shovel.
That's at the top of my banned list.
Second only to Imagine.
Yeah, but they both probably know this is his only shot. Better for them all in the long run if he stays as long as possible.
Move to NY, Kittie! We’re getting a blizzzzzzzzzard tomorrow, too.

That sounds fantastic!
Yeah, I agree.
LOL! I don't know about you, but I am just about over winter for this year.
