Polly, if I get a paper cut, or scratch even, I scrub with soap and water for a couple minutes, and then cover the broken skin with a bandaid and triple antibiotic ointment. The doc at Urgent Care gave me a tube of ointment that is one of the very few that will stop MRSA - and he also told me, that if I’m ever in a situation where I think I have been exposed to something serious (like H1N1), to use it on a q-tip in the base of my nostrils along with salt water.

I have been washing my nostrils out with salt water for a couple months, now - and so far - so good.

Wow Yorkie! Is the tube of ointment a prescription? Sounds like something we should all have on hand.

I have never heard of swabbing our nostrils out with salt water!

Signing off of the computer and heading for bed in Los Angeles! Rain is due tomorrow, finally!!!!!

Yes, Polly - it is a prescription.

I will freepmail you some links about salt water and nostril wash.

I have been doing it for about 2 months - with warm salt water and q-tips. I have a friend who is VERY health conscious - and she told me yesterday - that she has been doing this for over a year!

He followed in his dad's footsteps
His dad had been a gifted luthier
Fixing, restoring, building
anything with frets, tuners, or even tubes
The shop even had spares
Leftovers from the old Gretsch Factory
tucked in the rafters

Sawdust, shellac and guitars
these were the smells that greeted visitors
His dad passed away before he could pass on
all the tricks and things
he had learned over the decades

News I have
Four years late
that he is gone
as I pondered this
I picked up the bass he helped me restore
holding it like a living thing
and remembering
stopping in his shop
just to say "hi"

playing a tune or two
and reflecting about life, fishing, and everything
He would show me his latest
Creation
Restoration
Source of consternation

I had so hoped others I knew could benefit
From his gifted hands
Sad to say, sad to think, sad to realize
Those hands have turned cold years ago

Here I am with my Rickenbacker
holding, remembering
and praying

War . . . Then Peace
The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:7

On December 7, 1941, a Japanese war plane piloted by Mitsuo Fuchida took off from the aircraft carrier Akagi. Fuchida led the surprise attack on the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Through the war years to follow, Fuchida continued to fly—often narrowly escaping death. At war’s end, he was disillusioned and bitter.

A few years later, he heard a story that piqued his spiritual curiosity: A Christian young woman whose parents had been killed by the Japanese during the war decided to minister to Japanese prisoners. Impressed, Fuchida began reading the Bible.

As he read Jesus’ words from the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34), he understood how that woman could show kindness to her enemies. That day Fuchida gave his heart to Christ.

Becoming a lay preacher and evangelist to his fellow citizens, this former warrior demonstrated “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4:7)—a peace enjoyed by those who have trusted Christ and who “let [their] requests be made known to God” (v.6).

Have you found this peace? No matter what you have gone through, God makes it available to you.

There is peace in midst of turmoil,
There is joy when eyes are dim,
There is perfect understanding
When we leave it all to Him. —Brown

True peace is not the absence of war; it is the presence of God. —Loveless

Those two kittens are adorable.

I bought for Christmas for a little girl a stuffed cat and Beatrix Potter's "The Tale of Tom Kitten."

Kitty, your words are always so magical. I think I can speak for most of us at Amy's Place, I think you are our angel here. You always have the appropriate words for everyone's situations and we thank you so much as we know your words come straight from the heart.

Also, your little sleeping puppy is precious. Its a winner for sure!

She is a wonderful human being. She can always say just the right thing. I have called on her personally on many occasions.

That would be nice for your door or any door, as long a they love angels like we do and especially you.

DID IT SNOW? I meant to check on Sedona this morning but haven’t had time.

It is totally overcast, and very cold and raining pretty hard. It will turn to snow by this afternoon - we may get six inches (at 4,500 feet.) I’m hoping to get some good pictures!

But, Flagstaff, which is 25 miles north (at 7,500 feet) is under a blizzard warning, and will get over two feet of snow by tomorrow night. The winds are going to hit 50 to 60 mph.

Oh Starfire!! This just made me weep. For some reason it just speaks so of my dear dad!!

My dad owned a business " Ideal Mfg Co" and made what he called " Avalon Shades" crafted and woven on large looms. Many celebraties of the 50's and 60's had dad's "shades" in their home. Jaschua Heifitz, Ralph Edwards, etc. Sadly he never patented these shades, and since he has died, the Avalon Shades of dear dad are reduced to only samples that I lovingly display as a bye gone memory!

Sounds like you too have those precious memories!!

Dressing The Season

The warm glow of Summer slipped away
and the shifting flame of Fall fell fey
As the breath of Winter kisses the air
and snow carpets chill ground gone bare

Wind whispers in the dead fingers of trees
telling of the new drifting snow yet to be
Sharp the scent of warm fireplaces all aglow
upon the crisp breeze that soft does flow

Winter comes on wind drift feet so fleet
and we feel the crispness so sharp and neat
White garments dress the trees and lane
and sense a new aliveness to winter’s reign
