Shetland Sheepdog. Sorry, we had one for 16 years living in a suburban NYC apartment. She was great at scaring off stranger who came into the first floor apartments back yard. Otherwise, she was as quiet as a mouse.

I can think of lots of small dogs that are far noisier than some of those on this list.

My black YorkiePoo is barking at every delivery truck as I type. I work in an industrial park. Just wait till someone comes to the door. He sounds like a Rottweiler but weighs 13 pounds. God love him but geez!

I used to own a Great Pyranees as well. Very nice, quiet, well-mannered dog.

I grew up with an English Mastiff. She would bark at the coyotes howling a few miles over. You could hear the echoes for a while after she finished. But is was very rare. She wouldn't bark to warn you--she'd take care of the problem her own self.

My toy fox terrier isn’t that noisy. A bit of barking if someone knocks, but that’s about it.

Miniature poodles are by far the noisiest.

Norwegian elkhound.

I was picturing a dog that looks like a moose. What would bite your sister.

But nope.

Good looking dog!

My late, great Dobe, Baron, could be extremely loud — if he decided to bark. But, actually, like most Dobes (I am told), Baron really didn’t bark all that much. When on the attack, he usually just snarled.

I'd like to know how they came up with this list. I've owned and operated a boarding kennel for over 25 years and while I could agree with some of these choices, like the beagle, I can think of several others I would have put on that list instead.
Weimaraners, huskies and malamutes, schnauzers, basset hounds, just to name a few of my all time favorites.

Ours only bellers when there’s a squirrel in the yard. Or he’s on the wrong side of a door. Or when he’s hungry. Or another dog barks. Or the neighbor across the pasture is in her garden... or... ;~)

Don’t ever get a beagle. They are easily spoiled and will howl all night if you don’t let them sleep with you. I had a gf once that had a beagle. The damn thing would howl and cry until she let him in the bed.

I suppose mine would be the same. But when they are separated from their intended target by a barrier (a cage, the wall of a house) they can’t attack so barking is all they’ve got. When I’m riding in my Explorer with him in the cage in the back and he sees someone walking their dog (especially if we’re near his home base) his barking makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. And I’m used to him.
