Surprise: Many San Francisco booksellers refusing to carry Palin’s book

Don’t jump to conclusions. It’s not that the retailers are closed-minded. It’s their customers who are closed-minded.

Well, okay. Some of the retailers are closed-minded too. “Our customers are thinking people,” said Nathan Embretson, a bookseller at Pendragon Books in Oakland. “They’re not into reading drivel.” There’s not a single copy on the shelf. Embretson said no one has asked for it except for one guy, who was kidding. “He said he wanted to look at it but he also said he didn’t really want to read it,” Embretson said. “Anyway, he certainly didn’t want to buy it. I think he regarded looking at it as a kind of punishment.”… Had she ordered 50 copies of the book, Cotleur said, she would probably wind up shipping 50 copies of the book back to the publisher in a couple of weeks.

Gawd, all the responses here makes me wonder did I just step into a bookstore in China from the early 1980's when the approved works on the shelves were the writings of Mao Zedeng, Lenin and Stalin.

Overwhelm them with online orders for the book and then send them back. Tell them you found it nearby and much cheaper.

I am sure many of this bookseller’s customers already have copies of Palin’s book they ordered online to avoid the snide comments of idiots like this.

Book burning? That’s what the lib idiots claim Sarah did as mayor of Wasilla. Not true.

Just think! Sarah is a one-woman stimulus package. For the publishing company, the retailers and even those who are hawking her book and wristbands on ebay. This is how its done!

These same bookstores then complain about how they can’t compete with the chains.

Exactly!

I would love to go to Costco and pick one up. Oh yeah I don’t go there because I am a Concealed Carry Permit Holder and I excercize my 2nd Ammendment Rights. Costco prohibits their patrons and visitors from doing so. That’s okay I ordered mine from Amazon a couple days ago for under $10 including shipping.

While I don’t think much of Palin I find it disturbing and sad that these bookstores would not sell a book just because they disagree with its views.

The Totalitarian Liberals march in lock-step in thought, word, and deed.

...he said while sipping on his placenta smoothie. /sarc>

Greatest example of wishful thinking in a LONG time!

Oakland. Isn't that where the "Ebonics movement" got started?

Cheers!

“Our customers are thinking people,” said Nathan Embretson, a bookseller at Pendragon Books in Oakland. “They’re not into reading drivel.”

Drivel such as "Dreams of my Pastor" or "Earth in the Lurch"? There are days when I wonder to myself how people out here in the Bay Airhead Area can be such hypocritical haters.

LOL. In flyover country, they are camping out the night before to get a chance to meet Palin and get her signature. She’s been very good for business.
