Today, Obama was a different President and a much different speaker at Elmendorf Air Base while on his way to Asia.
Since the Ft Hood shooting, Obama was criticized for not speaking from his heart just like he does at those SEIU UNION rallies.
Therefore, I believe that the President spoke at this base specifically for "image" to show the miliatary that he is sincere. It is just another planned and calculated move.
And, as usual, he had 15 or so military folks behind him for public viewing. There was the usual sampling of American Troops in the tv viewing screen standing behind Obama as he spoke. You know 8-9 white people, 4-5 black people, a few hispanics, etc. All for show.
This shows lack of sincereity. I know he cares nithing about the military. And, if he werenotcriticized this past week due to his FT Hood speech, he most likely would not be speaking to the troops in Alaska at all.
Am I wrong here?

Forget something, Mr. Obama?
“Am I wrong here? “
Yes, you are wrong. If he had NOT given a speech while AF1 was on the base, it would have been a slap in the face to the military. Remember, he is the CiC, the guy in charge, no matter how we feel about it.
As for the troops on stage, that is generally how it is done for a visiting dignitary. It allows the visitor to get up close and personal, and the troops to see the boss.
I don’t understand your point about the mixed races on the stage. What would you do? Put all black troops up there, or all white, or all Hispanic?
I have hated his photo ops using our troops, and especially when he went to Dover AFB, but when I saw the hand salute he rendered, it was obvious he had asked somebody how to salute. Again, I hate the fact he is saluting, but he has a right to salute. Funny, it never bothered me when GWB returned the salute when getting on/off the helicopter or AF1. And it really got me fired up when Clinton refused to acknowledge the troops saluting him.
My 2 cents fwiw.....
......Bob
You’re not wrong. You’re spot on. And those troops who were there were, as usual, told to sit down or stand up and say nothing. Just applaud occassionally to make the DIC look good for his daily requirement of media coverage.
My son who is stationed there texted me and said that he had to go to see 0, and how much he hates him. He stated that 0 cares nothing for the military and he resents the fact that they are making him do this on his time off.
I loved the guy in the leather flight jacket that kept pulling his blackberry out of his jacket to answer the calls or messages. It really looked like he was into the speech! HA Many others on the stage really didn’t look like they wanted to be there.
If it weren’t for watching Beck, I wouldn’t have seen it.
Interesting that, with the exception of the overly excited Master Sergeant behind his right shoulder who clapped at every word, the lest of the troops behind Obama sat on their hands.
Yes, apparently he is worried that he might have lost something. He has to keep checking to make sure they're still there.
Am I wrong here?
Nope!
I saw bits and pieces and seemed tooooo upbeat and trying toooo hard to be "one of the boys," though he fell flat and other than from the families, did not appear to be getting great responses.
The military (nor most Americans) is not stupid and most know that he has 0 respect for them; that this is all for show; and nutting but a big dog & pony show!!!
Nice try O'Bozzo, but a day late and a dollar short.
You had 2 chances: One right after the attack and once at Ft. Hood Memorial and you blew both opportunities.
Right On the Money
Yes, you are wrong. If he had NOT given a speech while AF1 was on the base, it would have been a slap in the face to the military. Remember, he is the CiC, the guy in charge, no matter how we feel about it.
Bull Sh*t!!
This was "planned."
WHY did he "HAVE" to give a speech while on the ground in AK?
WHY did he even have to make this stop?
Not buying it for a minute and if you don't think that someone (yes I know they all do it but its more grating coming from this PC asshat) did not "place" the mix of those who were visible behind him, then, I've got a nice bridge for sale, cheap!!!
The commie in chief seems intent on disrupting Beck whenever possible to give his speeches. Must be the only time that he thinks he'll have an audience.
I wish Fox would quit disrupting Beck and play these useless speeches when Schwepp is on instead of disrupting the factual Beck Show to bring us the Ficticious President.
Obama was doing this as a PR stunt, neither the mayor of Anchorage or the Governor was at Elmendorf.
They re-fueled the jet, kicked the tires and cleaned the windshield and took off, Alaska was just a Stuckeys stop for Obama.
Even the far left MSNBC didn't waste time covering this...Beck was pretty honked off...
So President Obama says he'd like to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki - something no sitting U.S. president has ever done. Of course, there's a reason they haven't: it could be seen as criticism of a painful decision that ended the bloodiest war in history.
Now, I don't mind if Obama wants to go, and it's probably presumptuous of me to criticize him for what he might say there, since he hasn't gone yet.
But if I didn't, then I wouldn't have a Gregalogue, and that's not fair to me, or to those delightful unicorn voices in my head.
And besides, I can pretty much go by what I've seen of Obama already. Fact is, whenever he's overseas, he tends to translate American success into past arrogance. Plus, I dont think he'll go to Hiroshima and say, "We did it to save lives," because that undermines his whole point about nuclear weapons being evil.
And look at the fall of the Berlin Wall - the most important positive event in our lifetimes - unleashing a march of countries toward freedom. Obama didn't even go to that shindig. Instead, he offered a video - the kind of thing Britney Spears does when she can't accept the trophy for best U.T.I. at the MTV awards.
Still, Obama's speech wasn't bad. He championed freedom and stuff.
But then, he couldn't resist:
"Few would have foreseen ... that a united Germany would be led by a woman from Brandenburg or that their American ally would be led by a man of African descent. But human destiny is what human beings make of it."
So, no mention of Reagan or Thatcher - yet he brings up himself?
Maybe staying home isn't so bad.
And if you disagree with me, you're probably a racist!
I saw the clip and the dear leader’s enthusiasm... as if NOTHING HAS HAPPENED! He really does have an on and off switch. He was cold, rude and emotionless at Fort Hood, and we won’t forget.
