There was one world leader absent for todays commemorations marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Surprisingly enough, its President Barack Obama, who found time last year to give a campaign speech there last year, which Der Spiegel summed up as People of the World, Look at Me.
The White House has cited a packed schedule, though looking at it he had nothing much on yesterday (brief chat to reporters about healthcare by far his biggest priority) and just blah briefings and a bill signing today until a metting this evening with Benjamin Netanyahu. This time, Der Spiegel has reported it as Barack Too Busy.
But Obama is, of course, making time to trot over to Norway to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in December. Didnt seem to have too much of a problem clearing the diary for that though his acceptance of the prize and decision to give a another soaring, historical, epoch-marking etc etc speech there will be looked back on as a colossal political mistake and sign of hubris.

This is cutting stuff....
In all honesty, if he was in Germany, how many people would be screaming about failing to be in Texas to honor the fallen soldiers?
Communists don’t celebrate defeats.
The memorial service in Texas is today. Both George and Laura Bush have already visited the hospital to meet victims. Where is Obama? Who gives a damn where he is.
Beside which the Berlin wall celebrations have been going for some days.... it does seem like a slight from Obama as a Statesman.
People the globe over are beginning to laugh at him as a lightweight on the world stage. Russia and Islam must think all their birthdays have come at once.
Nice one.... ! And seeming to honour Ronald Regan..oh the thought!!
I never thought I would ever be hoping that another nation’s leader would run rings around an American President.
But Go Bibi Go!!!! It is disinformation time. You know Obama will inform Israel’s enemies in a nanosecond of the content of any private meeting.
1. zer0 hates Freedom, and this is a celebration of Freedom. Also he doesn't celebrate defeat of his comrades.
2. zer0 would not be the center of attention at a ceremony like this, and he can't abide that!
I'm glad he's not there.
I thought the litmus test for successful international policy was French and German approval. Certainly thats what the dems and the lapdog media told us for years. We were then told that Bush had alienated those nations, though in the end they both shifted rightward under his terms and he had friends in both Merkel and Sarkozy. Obama has a chilly relationship with both those leaders and with fellow lefty Gordon Brown of Britain to boot. And he had pre-conditions to meet with Netanyahu. And the Poles now are stirred up and angry with us because he sold them out to the Russians in a serious diplomatic blunder which yielded no benefits whatsoever.
What ally of the US has he not ticked off?
He had no problem going there while campaigning for the adulation of the world.
My Nov 14 2008 prediction about the coming EU disillusionment with Obama
"My guess is that the EU is going to be shocked when they realize just how arrogant Obama is. Im sure they, in their own condescending way, are thinking Ah, finally a man we can work with! One who will listed to us and be guided by our nuanced knowledge of world affairs!. Instead after they deal with Obama they will come away angry about being bossed around by him. He thinks hes king of the world now. He doesnt want some sniveling beaurocrat in Belgium telling him what to do! They will take his instructions or else!"
But I think it is all of a piece. Obama has decided where his allies lie and they are not over here... look to the middle east and communist states. His foreign policy (such as it is) speaks volumes.
On the other hand with all the anti-American rhetoric that emanates form Europe I was surprised that the President Bush was so warm towards us. But he was a gracious individual and that is crystal clear now that Obama’s ego is in the frame.
My son asked if Obama was busy ordering another pizza.
My son asked if Obama was busy ordering another pizza.
Zer0 just can’t take time away from his delibrations on trooping Afganistan; solving the mid-east peace iniative; gloating about his puppet Pelosi ramming Obamacare through the house; de-nucing Iran; cranking up cap and tax; getting the union cardcheck legislation through; meeting with his economic advisore regarding the final takeover of all the worlds financial system.
Oh, and get in a few rounds of golf; play some hoops, and take Michelle out on another few datenights!
What a loser!
It is spot on - we in grand old Europe , thought he was like us - refined and rational, full of existential angst and sensitive to post modern poetry - not like the rednecks who like guns and see the world in in simplistic terms.
Turns out he's a barking naive ego maniac, left of the European Establishment (and that is saying something).
The Telegraph is becoming my second favorite news source. (After the NY Post, of course). Followed by the Canada Free Press. The foreign press seems to be doing the job the U.S. media refuses to do. The MSM is losing its credibility along with their Kenyan idol.
What do you say to a graduate in philosphy when he knocks on your dood?
“thanks for the pizza, keep the change.”
