It's starting in 3 minutes..."V"...the strange remake of "V"...the series that is so evocative of Obama's "hope and change".

Just starting a discussion thread as this serial opens.

Even my wife who doesn’t like to follow politics at all picked up on the similarities to the obama administration. The universal health care was the dead give away....

I liked it, however, it didn’t have the shock factor of the original (i.e. Diana eating a guinea pig)

It's going to be hard to shock people with that, because the basic plot-line is already well-known. They need to change up the details to make it interesting.

Linking it with terrorist cells was a great idea. And the advance infiltrators introduces a lot of unknowns, because you don't know who can be trusted.

I think this has a lot of potential. But, it's going to introduce a lot of passion on both sides, due to the parallels with current events. The original V was a rehash of past history. This is relevant NOW.

Just finished the pilot, and thought the original was better done except for the fx.

The original was only 4 hours long, so it had to be a lot faster paced. This had the feeling of the intro for a much longer series.

I liked the “change is difficult” line.

It's about how people get sucked into supporting fascism or other forms of totalitarianism. Hitler and Mussolini were wildly popular in their own countries, and also in other lands. The story of "V" is a very old story about how people make foolish mistakes in who they give their allegiance to.

This story has NOT been written about Obama. But Obama is an excellent example of what this story is warning us about.

I've recorded it and am watching the returns in between watching V.

I had to laugh when the Visitors said they were going to establish Universal Health Care World wide.

This is not Obama's best night...LOL.

On another thread, someone said they received a response from a newspaper columnist saying that the script was finalized after Obama was elected.

The promise of Universal Health Care from the Visitors can't be coincidental. However, there's no way they could have responded so quickly to the war between Fox News and the White House -- they just got incredibly lucky that it happened just before the premiere of the show.

The same columnist claims that ABC put further episodes on hold after they saw the first 4:

The script for the pilot was written after the election, Floyd. There's also some suggestion that ABC is not entirely happy with it. Production on the show was halted after four episodes for a creative overhaul. Exactly what that means is anybody's guess..

The remake of "V" was filmed because its producers thought it would find an audience...do you think they care what the original film's target was?

This film is perfect for Obama!

And you call it silly?

Take some time and study art and its political impact. It is always about current issues (either intentionally or co-incidentally).

Please reconsider. I remember the original series, too. This is a lot better. And it's unbelievably relevant

As I said, man-eating Lizards from space is not my idea of good Sci-fi. It does not matter to me how relevant the show may be. I'm more of a "wagon train to the stars" kind of viewer.
