ELK, Wash. - The owner of a miniature horse says he was forced to shoot and kill three pit bulls that were mauling his animal.
Thursday, the horse's owner told the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office the three dogs had come onto this property, off Juanita Lane and started attacking his horse.
The man fired several warning shots to try and scare the dogs and when the warning shots did not work, the man turned his aim to the dogs, shooting all three.
Two of the dogs died on the scene and the third ran off only to die later at a veterinarian's office.
While trying to get in touch with Justin Howell, the dogs' owner, a deputy discovered marijuana growing on Howell's property.
Howell told deputies he had Medicinal Marijuana Certificate and was growing marijuana for his own personal use, however an investigation found he had more than allowed for medicinal use under state law.
Howell was arrested for Manufacturing Marijuana and cited for dog at large.
The miniature horse suffered severe injuries and is being treated by a veterinarian.
Gives a whole new meaning to “shooting the bull.”
100% of the vet bills this horse owner will have coming should be paid for by the dog owner.
Yeah, but since the dog owner is probably a deadbeat whose only sources of income are selling marijuana and maybe breeding pit bulls for fighting, I doubt he’s going to be a source of much cash at this point. All his inventory has been killed or confiscated.
Should have shot the dogs owners also.
Good for him. Great to have a weapon that stops senseless maulings that can’t be stopped any other way.
Good for him.
Oh, I see
In most western states, a landowner can shoot dogs that harass, attack or chase livestock at will, with no criminal or civil penalties.
Here’s the revised Washington Code, RCW 16.08.020:
“It shall be lawful for any person who shall see any dog or dogs chasing, biting, injuring or killing any sheep, swine or other domestic animal, including poultry, belonging to such person, on any real property owned or leased by, or under the control of, such person, or on any public highway, to kill such dog or dogs, and it shall be the duty of the owner or keeper of any dog or dogs so found chasing, biting or injuring any domestic animal, including poultry, upon being notified of that fact by the owner of such domestic animals or poultry, to thereafter keep such dog or dogs in leash or confined upon the premises of the owner or keeper thereof, and in case any such owner or keeper of a dog or dogs shall fail or neglect to comply with the provisions of this section, it shall be lawful for the owner of such domestic animals or poultry to kill such dog or dogs found running at large. “
I wonder what PETA would say about this. Seems like a pretty conflicting situation. Maybe they’d resort to the Darwinian viewpoint that the animals should be allowed to practice survival of the fittest without interference by man.
“Yeah, but since the dog owner is probably a deadbeat whose only sources of income are selling marijuana and maybe breeding pit bulls for fighting,...”
Perhaps the suit could be transferred to whichever NFL team the owner plays for.
Ping.
OK, it appears that I’ve been wrong on these pitbull threads. I thought the only reason to have them is to protect a meth lab or a drug house. It appears that they are also useful for grow operations.
The pit bull mod must be off today.
I had a chow-pit mix teach me about myself ONCE. I still don’t believe pits should be banished. BTW doggie ended up with 4 cracked ribs,
The dogs belonged to the deputy...not Howell.
While trying to get in touch with Justin Howell, the dogs’ owner, a deputy discovered marijuana growing on Howell’s property.
Ahh, journalism writing is not what it should be, but that’s not the way I read it — unless you are making that point with a sarcastic remark.
Forgot your sarcasm tag. It is poor writing, but it was the dope grower, not the cop, who got the citation for the loose dogs. “Howell was arrested for Manufacturing Marijuana and cited for dog at large.”
I can see how you misread "While trying to get in touch with Justin Howell, the dogs owner, a deputy discovered marijuana growing on Howells property."
but you must remember that even reporters, who tools of trade are words, are no longer able to write a proper sentence. Howell was the dog owner -
Yes we should let all the Animals mix it up hell take all the fences down including the Zoos just Like the Diversity the Government wants for Humans it is working out so Well\s.
chime in pitbull defenders.
I freaking HATE this bread of animal and wish they were exterminated.
