A massive dig along 22 kilometres of a new high-speed train route in Saxony-Anhalt has revealed a spectacular discovery of 55,000 artefacts -- among them skeletons that date back to the Bronze Age. The eastern German state's office of archaeology announced this week that Deutsche Bahnâs construction of a new Intercity-Express (ICE) train route between Erfurt and Leipzig has proven to be a bonanza for a team of 150 experts, who have been working since September 2008 to examine some 75 hectares across the Querfurt plate near Oechlitz. The fertile region between two valleys is known to have been settled for at least 7,500 years along what was an important trade route, but the Deutsche Bahn project was a special opportunity to explore the evidence below ground, Dr. Alfred Reichenberger from the state's archaeology authority told The Local on Tuesday... Among the artefacts uncovered at more than 15 sites in the area are evidence of settlement and graves -- some of which were used repeatedly over the years. Near Bad Lauchstädt archaeologists found a farm from the Unetice culture they dated back to between 2200 and 1600 BC. A small grave nearby revealed a woman buried in a sitting position -- which the state authority said could only be explained after further analysis. The oldest artefacts pulled up at the dig are 7,300-year-old objects from the Linear Pottery culture, considered to be the oldest farming culture in central Europe. Meanwhile Reichenberger reported that the digs also revealed the largest number of gravesites from the so-called Bell-Beaker culture (2800-1900 BC) ever found.

Looks cremated.
I am always amazed at how little we know about past civilizations. Also, I wonder what future generations will know about us? Will we leave enough data for someone a thousand years in the future to discern the truth, or will there be planted data to lead them astray?
******NOTE TO THE BEING READING THIS IN THE FAR FUTURE******
OBAMA stinks! America is beautiful. Texas is the greatest state in the history of America. I love drinking scotch whisky. I love cigars. I love pretty girls, and after a few shots of Scotch, I love all girls.
No crunchies.
Neat find.
If they had found a remote and a plastic tray for bon bons, I would have been very worried.
Chillin' wit' my Bonies
“Son, they're gonna find our bones someday and these plastic ties are really gonna mess with someone’s mind.”

All-time October low recorded in Bavaria
Meteorologists on Tuesday morning recorded the lowest ever October temperature in Germany, as the mercury dipped to a chilly -24.3 degrees Celsius in Bavarias Berchtesgaden national park.
(off topic...just couldn’t let the good news go to waste!)
Think calcium if I visit Germany?
Give ‘em time.
Ricola! Ricola!
I have to wonder if they just got lucky in their location of digging, or there’s a lot which will never be properly excavated, just destroyed.
It’s amazing how much more there is to learn just in Europe. :’)
Looks like he died smoking in bed, if you ash me.
That would explain the posture...
LOL!
