KIRSTIE (ALLEY) CHECKS INTO FAT FARM
N.E. ^

Sitcom queen Kirste Alley makes like human zeppelin, docks at fat farm for quick fix.

Alarmed as her weight skyrocketed toward 300 pounds, a desperate Kirstie checked into a fat farm and began grueling six-days-a-week workout sessions.

The distraught actress collapsed and broke down in tears when her weight soared to a record 250 pounds, as The ENQUIRER reported in late June. But she was unable to put the brakes on her out-of-control bingeing.

Racing to avert disaster, Kirstie started a new diet and exercise routine, but ended up adding another 15 pounds - and hit the 265-pound mark in mid-September.

She knew she had to get professional help…fast.

"Her breakdown was a blessing in disguise - it was the wake-up call she needed," revealed a source close to the 5-foot-8 actress.

"She realized she had to take drastic measures or she could die."

If she said “kiss my Ass” it would take a weeks vacation.

Get off your ass and eat less. It's that simple.

Tell that to people on certain medications or have thyroid problems. It's not 'that simple' for some people. We have dozens of patients who need their medication which causes a great deal of weight gain. It wouldn't matter how much they 'got off their ass and ate less' they wouldn't lose the weight.

No.

I won't tell that to people on certain medications or who have thyroid problems........because that's not who I'm talking to, and you know it.

SOME people have medical problems that make them gain weight.

MOST fat people are fat from eating too much and exercising too little.

I just lost my baby sister in July. She weighed 480 pounds and was a heavy smoker. She left 4 children and a husband behind. It was so sad.

Indeed it is sad, my condolences to you.

A couple of years ago my 40 year old nephew died, he weighed about the same as your sister.

Other than water retention issues I’m not sure I can agree here. The body burns calories regardless of medications. If medications lower caloric needs, then the patient should eat the amount of calories their body needs at that point. Supplement with vitamins to ensure dietary needs are met.

You have no idea why MOST fat people are fat unless you know them personally. There are millions of people who are on antidepressants too that make them gain weight. Unless you are their medical doctor you know nothing about them.

And fyi, I know of what I speak. I’m on those same meds that cause weight gain in people... those who decide to keep eating the same amounts they did before the medications.

Sheer idiocy. Have you ever heard of "statistics?"

antidepressants only cause weight gain if one does not take into account for the side effects. On SSRI’s, eat less, take vitamins, exercise more.

Yeah, I can't imagine that. I quit smoking one time and went from about 160 up to about 190. Those 30 extra pounds make me feel like I was wearing full sandbags for clothes as I went up and down stairs.

Felt the same way when I quit smoking and shot up from 170 to 200 in just a few months. Miserable. Even my voice sounded fat! And bending over to tie my shoes... I never want to feel like that again.

Sadly, the weight came off when I resumed smoking.

Come on....eating what you want is second nature to the human race, including myself. There's so much cheap fattening food around it's no wonder there's so much obesity.

And if you're on antidepressants that make you prone to weight gain, adjust and lower your calorie intake. If you're hitting menopause and it makes you prone to gaining weight, adjust and lower your calorie intake.

To pretend that you're a victim to getting fat and it just simply happens to you and you're helpless is pathetic.

Exactly. Except in very very rare cases, being fat is a choice or a mental issue. It is almost never a purely physiological problem.

Paxil and Weight Gain

Taking paxil? I’ll bet you’re gaining weight. Paxil and weight gain go together like salt and pepper.

The fact that paxil and other antidepressants make many users gain weight has been known for decades.

Unfortunately, the information has been slow in trickling down to the doctors who usually prescribe them.

Why You Gain Weight with Paxil
Paxil, like the other drugs in its class, can impede specific enzymes in your liver that allow your metabolism to function correctly.

Much like crimping a garden hose impedes the flow of water through it; so paxil and other SSRI’s impede certain neuroendocrine system pathways.

All antidepressants slow the metabolism and inhibit specific enzymes in the liver that allow the metabolism to function correctly. Many antidepressants also also increase appetite and carbohydrate cravings. Antidepressants like Paxil are also shown to cause hormonal changes, which can further add to weight gain.

According to Dr. Daniel K. Hall-Flavin of the Mayo Clinic, not all anti-depressants cause weight gain; however, Paxil can and often does. He explains that serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), of which Paxil is one, don’t normally cause weight gain whereas MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors, are more likely to result in added weight. In this case, Paxil, which is an SSRI, is the exception, particularly if taken for a long period of time.

I’ve spent the best part of my life in the shade of a flagpole, but I found this new diet where I can rest under the clothesline.

Just like I said. You don't know me and I'm not helpless, I'm not a victim and I'm not fat.

I was speaking about our pharmacy customers who aren't victims either. They are on medication that causes weight gain.

Yes, I’ve had experience with Paxil. You adjust your caloric intake to take the metobolic side effect into account (eat less). And look for another SSRI.

Why doesn’t she have that new Lap Band procedure done? EVERYONE who I’ve known that has lost weight lately has been because they’ve had that done.

And I do mean everyone! It’s laproscopic and done in 30 minutes. I went to a couple of seminars but decided I really need to do it the old fashioned way...but wish I had the guts to do it.

If I weighed THAT much over though I’d greatly consider it.
