Good article ... I've always liked Dan Aykroyd. I didn't know his family were all into paranormal stuff. It explains a lot.
By sheerest coincidence, we happen to have gotten Ghostbusters just the other day. It's still funny.

The “Blues Brothers” is the most pro spiritual movie I have ever seen since “The Exorcist” - “We are on a mission from God”.

You're not familiar with the Johnny Carson Carnac bit, are you.

I was thinking the same thing. You could always count on being entertained before you fell asleep.

I miss Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray and all the rest.
Truth is, comedy had gotten a bit weak since they moved on...

It was smart comedy that worked on many levels. I think because these guys came out of a comedic movement that appealed to educated college kids of the 70s - counter culture, etc.
Modern comedians come from a different atmosphere. The stand up night club which produces more lowest denominator style of jokesters.

You are right, comedy was smart, jokes were"running", you would laugh all night.
Now all it takes is a F bomb and a laugh track.
I am amazed at the people who laugh, just because a so called comedian is on stage, we have been dumbed down.

Compare college kids of today and their worldly knowledge to those of the 80s 70s or 60s - it is like we went down in IQ power in a generation. Everything now is a frat boy sex joke. Who would get a Chevy Chase joke in the style of “Generalissimo Franco is still dead” joke today?
